Lionel Messi has shared his two favorite memories from his illustrious time at Barcelona. He picked winning the sextuple under Pep Guardiola and the UEFA Champions League trophy under Luis Enrique as his two favorite moments.
Lionel Messi came through the Blaugrana's academy and became their best-ever player in history. During his time at the club, he also played under some legendary managers, including Guardiola and Enrique. In an interview with Sport, the Argentine was asked to pick a favorite memory from his time at Barcelona. He answered:
"It's hard to keep one. Thank God I was lucky to live many moments. I don't know, generally when we talk about happiness we go to the titles, to the achievements, to the important things we have achieved. But the first sextet with Guardiola was extraordinary, the last Champions League with Luis Enrique too. I don't know, it's hard to stay with a moment."Barcelona won the sextuple under Guardiola in the 2008-09 season. Along with the UEFA Champions League, LaLiga title, and Copa del Rey, they also won the Supercopa de España, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup.
In the 2014-15 season, meanwhile, the Spanish giants won the treble under Luis Enrique, winning the Champions League, LaLiga, and Copa del Rey.
When Lionel Messi said Pep Guardiola and Luis Enrique helped improve him at Barcelona
In an interview with La Sexta in December 2020, Lionel Messi credited Pep Guardiola and Luis Enrique for helping him improve. He said (h/t Sky Sports):
"I was lucky enough to be coached by Guardiola and Luis Enrique for such a long time - the two best coaches. Having them so close together made me improve so much in a footballing sense and in terms of tactical awareness."The former Barcelona star also hailed Pep Guardiola as special, saying:
"He (Guardiola) has something special about him. I don't know. He makes you see things in a certain way in terms of how he prepares for games, both defensively and going forward. He could tell you exactly how the match is going and how you have to attack to win."Lionel Messi played 219 games under Pep Guardiola at Barcelona, scoring 211 goals and providing 94 assists, helping them win 14 trophies. Meanwhile, he played 158 games under Luis Enrique, recording 153 goals and 76 assists, and winning nine major trophies.
