Max Holloway recently shared his thoughts on the upcoming Jack Della Maddalena vs. Islam Makhachev welterweight title fight. Holloway backed the Australian to knock out Makhachev before the championship rounds.
Della Maddalena and Makhachev will throw down in the main event of UFC 322 at Madison Square Garden in New York City this weekend. While the Australian is coming off a unanimous decision win over Belal Muhammad at UFC 315 in May, Makhachev last beat Renato Moicano via first-round submission at UFC 311 in January.
Many believe Makhachev's incredible grappling prowess will lead him to victory against Della Maddalena. However, Holloway sees 'JDM' use his striking skills to push the Dagestani fighter to his limits. In a video uploaded to his YouTube channel, Holloway said:
"Call me crazy, but I'm running with Jack on this one. I think the first two rounds are going to be super competitive, and we're gonna see how the fight is going to play out. I think Jack's takedown defense is going to be huge here. I think he's going to defend a bunch of takedowns, and he's going to get Islam tired. A lot of people keep saying that Islam doesn’t get tired, but in fights, you can see it. He just doesn't get as tired as the other guy."Get the latest updates on One Championship Rankings at Sportskeeda and more
He continued:
"Maybe a third-round TKO, leaning toward Jack. I think Jack is gonna find Islam’s chin... When [Makhachev] gets hit sometimes, it looks like it gets to him."Dustin Poirier previews Jack Della Maddalena vs. Islam Makhachev fight at UFC 322
Dustin Porier recently shared his two cents on the Jack Della Maddalena vs. Islam Makhachev welterweight title fight at UFC 322 and pointed out some key factors that could help the Australian win.
In an interview with MMA Fighting (via @MMAFighting on X), Poirier highlighted how Della Maddalena's striking skills could help him put the pressure on Makhachev and said:
"I think both guys are great at certain things. It’s all going to come down to the takedown defense of 'JDM'. If he can get back up to his feet, if he can use the fence, or stay off the fence, use his boxing, I think he definitely could give Islam a lot of trouble in the center of the octagon. He’s a great striker. He’s big and powerful."He continued:
"Islam is not a small man... He’s going to look like a solid welterweight in a title fight. But it’s going to come down to his ability to get takedowns and hold 'JDM' down. If 'JDM' can get back up over and over and scramble, I think he’s going to give Islam a lot of problems with the exchanges of boxing."Why did you not like this content?
