The biggest reason the Acid Lab works so well is that it’s designed for solo play. It doesn’t punish you with multiple delivery vehicles, long setup chains, or random failures that waste time. Once it’s set up correctly, it quietly earns money in the background while you do literally anything else.

The key thing to understand is that the Acid Lab is average at best without upgrades and excellent once fully optimized. Everything hinges on unlocking the Equipment Upgrade.

How to unlock GTA Online Acid Lab from scratch

Unlocking the Acid Lab is straightforward, but it does require finishing a short story chain. Start by heading to the 'R' icon in Blaine County to begin the First Dose storyline. This kicks off a sequence of six missions. The first one starts in Blaine County, while the remaining five take place outside the Freakshop in Los Santos.

After completing all six missions, your character steals the Brickade 6x6 and stores it at the Freakshop. One final mission follows, where you raid a rival lab and use a forklift to load crates into the truck before driving it back.

Once that’s done, head inside the Freakshop and talk to Mutt. Pay him $750,000, and the Acid Lab is officially installed inside the Brickade 6x6.

The upgrade that actually makes the business worth it

Without upgrades, the Acid Lab simply isn’t great. This is where many players get it wrong.

To unlock the Equipment Upgrade, you must complete 10 Fooligan Jobs for Dax. These are started by calling Dax directly from your phone and requesting work. Each mission pays $50,000, takes around 5 to 15 minutes, and has a 48-minute cooldown.

Once unlocked, the Equipment Upgrade costs $250,000. At that point, the total investment for the entire business lands at roughly $1 million.
