The Dallas Wings return to action on Friday as they take on the LA Sparks in a Western Conference showdown. Once again, they’ll be without star rookie Paige Bueckers, who is set to miss her third straight game while remaining in concussion protocol.
While initial reports indicated that the No. 1 overall pick would be sidelined for at least two games, there was always a possibility she could miss additional time. The encouraging news, however, is that Bueckers was a non-contact participant in practice on Thursday, a positive sign that suggests she’s progressing in the right direction.
Paige Bueckers is set to be re-evaluated ahead of the Wings’ matchup against the Minnesota Lynx on Sunday. The standout rookie has been one of the top guards in the league this season and is firmly in the conversation for Rookie of the Year honors.
Through six games, Bueckers is averaging 14.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 6.7 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.0 block, while shooting 43.75% from the field, including 33.3% from beyond the arc.
In her absence, the Wings have struggled, losing both games without her and extending their losing streak to three. With a 1-7 record, the Dallas-based franchise currently sits at the bottom of the league standings and is in urgent need of a turnaround. The sooner Bueckers returns to the court, the greater the team’s chances of getting back on track and climbing the standings.
