Is Jayson Tatum playing tonight? Latest wrist injury updates on Celtics star for Game 2 vs. Magic

It's early, but the Celtics have already run into a potential setback during their NBA title defense.

In the fourth quarter of Boston's playoff-opening win over the Magic, fans at TD Garden held their breath when superstar forward Jayson Tatum took a hard fall and remained down with an apparent wrist injury. While Tatum eventually got up and stayed in the game, he was visibly impacted by his wrist.

While initial X-rays on Tatum's wrist returned clean, an MRI revealed a bone bruise. His status for Game 2 is now in question.

Is Jayson Tatum playing tonight vs. Magic?

Tatum's status "is somewhat up in the air for Game 2," according to a report from ESPN's Shams Charania.

Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla described Tatum's status as "day-to-day," adding that the All-Star forward went through "some stuff" during Tuesday's practice session. This aligns with Charania's reporting that the injury is a pain tolerance issue that Boston plans to manage.

Tatum has made the playoffs in each of his first eight seasons and has played in 114 of a possible 114 playoff games. Missing Game 2 would be the first playoff absence of his NBA career.

After Wednesday's game, the teams are back in action on Friday, April 25, in Orlando.

In Game 1, Tatum was limited to 17 points while shooting 8-of-22 from the field, 1-of-8 from 3-point range, and missing all four of his free throw attempts.
