Is Emeka Egbuka playing today? Latest injury update on Bucs' WR, who could be limited

The status of Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Emeka Egbuka was ambiguous ahead of the Week 3 game against the New York Jets after he popped up on the injury report for the first time this season.

Egbuka was listed with a hip and groin issues on Wednesday and did not practice over the first two days of the week before getting in a limited session on Friday, which led to him drawing the questionable tag.

On Sunday morning, we received an injury update from ESPN's Adam Schefter, who had both good news and potentially bad news for the Buccaneers' rookie.

Is Emeka Egbuka playing today?

Schefter reports that while Egbuka is expected to play, he could see his snaps limited during the Week 3 contest against the New York Jets.

"Buccaneers WR Emeka Egbuka, who is expected to play today vs. the Jets despite hip and groin injuries, is expected to have his snaps monitored and potentially limited based on how he feels during the game, per source," he wrote on X.

Why it matters

Having Egbuka in the lineup is huge for the Bucs, who are already missing two key wide receivers in Jalen McMillan and Chris Godwin.

McMillan is on injured reserve with a neck injury and Godwin is still recovering from a dislocated ankle suffered last season and was ruled out during the week.

Egbuka has immediately taken on a big role in Tampa Bay, with the rookie ranking second on the team in targets (13) and receiving yards (96), third in catches (eight) and first in receiving touchdowns (three).

Fantasy football impact

Egbuka has put himself on the fantasy starting map over the first two weeks of the season, but he's a very risky play this week due to the possibility he may not see a full workload.

Based on the fact that there is even a consideration he may not play a full amount of snaps, it's reasonable to believe Egbuka isn't at 100%, so the risk of an aggravation of his injury and early exit could be high, also.

Outside of desperate situations, Egbuka is best left on the bench in Week 3.
