Is Bills' offensive identity changing?

1 hour ago 3

Are the winds of change blowing through Highmark Stadium for the Buffalo Bills offense?

With Josh Allen orchestrating the offense, Buffalo has raced out to a 2-0 record and looks every bit the Super Bowl contender we thought they would be.

But something interesting has happened when it comes to the offensive identity of Buffalo - it leads the NFL in rushing attempts through two weeks, averaging 37 per game.

For ESPN's Alaina Getzenberg, that is rather surprising, but she thinks that will be a trend that continues.

"The offense under coordinator Joe Brady has put an emphasis on a productive run game to support quarterback Josh Allen," Getzenberg writes. "That will continue as the season progresses, especially behind a strong offensive line that has returned the same starting five from last year and with James Cook starting the season off on a strong note.

"It also helps if the Bills can build leads early in games, like in their Week 2 win over the Jets. With Allen and the passing potential, staying first in attempts seems unlikely, but emphasizing the running game will continue."

Are Bills now a run-first offense?

After two weeks of production, one could say yes, but we know that the Bills under coordinator Joe Brady have developed a knack for winning in different ways and not relying on Allen to throw them to wins.

We saw the run game establish itself in the 30-10 win over the New York Jets as Allen took a back seat, and in Week 1, it was the passing game that got Buffalo back into the game.

So, there are different avenues for this offense to go down, but we aren't sure if the Bills will be the best rushing team in football, which is usually reserved for the Baltimore Ravens and Philadelphia Eagles.

But through two weeks? Buffalo is one of the best running teams in football.

And we don't think that will change anytime soon.
