The San Francisco 49ers needed another top weapon for Brock Purdy, given the troubles on offense last season.
No Brandon Aiyuk for the year, Deebo Samuel was moved on in the offseason, and George Kittle suffered an Achilles injury. That left the 49ers with running back Christian McCaffrey as the leading receiver with 924 yards, and then Jauan Jennings, the next best, with 643.
So, the 49ers made the move to sign Mike Evans. A trusted veteran who puts up 1,000 yards for fun (except last season).
It is a three-year deal that can rise up to $60.4 million and has $16 million guaranteed.
For ESPN's Seth Walder, the move makes so much sense for both parties.
"After seemingly being flush with wide receiver talent not too long ago, the 49ers entered this offseason needing a wideout," Walder said. "They got a good one. The big question: Is Evans still the same player? In the limited sample outside of the games he missed because of collarbone and hamstring injuries, there was some drop-off.
"But the 49ers shouldn't be that worried because of the contract and the upside Evans can deliver."

Is Evans the missing piece for 49ers?
Well, he seems to think so.
And looking at how the 49ers still won 12 games last season and averaged 25.7 points per game (10th), it is easy to see the impact of Evans on the passing game.
Purdy needs a dependable receiver, and while McCaffrey was that last season, you can't have your running back have 102 receptions and 311 rushing attempts. That's a recipe for disaster.
Evans helps with that.
Plus, Ricky Pearsall only played nine games last year and posted over 500 yards, so if the 49ers can also get a full season out of him, the passing game is in good shape.
But Evans will be the focal point in San Francisco, as he looks to win one more Super Bowl before hanging up the cleats.
