Iryna Zarutska’s accused killer Decarlos Brown Jr. could face death penalty after gruesome Charlotte train stabbing

The career criminal charged with fatally stabbing Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska on the Charlotte light rail system was indicted Wednesday on federal charges that could land him the death penalty, according to reports.

Accused killer Decarlos Brown Jr., 31, has been charged with violence against a railroad carrier and mass transportation system resulting in death after a federal grand jury in North Carolina returned an indictment against him, ABC News reported.

Decarlos Brown Jr., who was charged with the fatal stabbing of Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska, has been indicted on federal charges. AP

The charges make him eligible for the death penalty.

Brown was allegedly caught in a harrowing video surveillance stabbing Zarutska, 23, to death on Aug. 22 on the Lynx Blue Line light rail in Charlotte.
