The last time the South Tama High School softball team earned a win in the WaMaC Conference, many of the current players were years from stepping foot on the diamond.
With an 11-1 victory over Vinton-Shellsburg this past Monday night, the Trojans snapped an 80-game losing streak that extended to 151 league games.
The last time South Tama earned a win, according to The Gazette, was on June 26, 2021 when they defeated Eagle Grove. The newspaper notes they did not field a team in 2022 and went 0-31 in 2023 and '24.
As for the league losing skid, that dated back to June 27, 2016 when they downed Williamsburg, who is now one of the premier programs in the state.
The Trojans broke out for seven runs in the fourth to put the game away early after plating two in the first and two more in the second.
Vinton-Shellsburg did win the second game of the doubleheader.
