Inside Tiger Woods’ exclusive Florida community — where residents reel from golfer’s DUI crash

1 hour ago 2

Professional golfer Tiger Woods was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after he was involved in a terrifying car accident near his Florida home on March 27.

Woods, 50, rolled his Land Rover on a street inside the exclusive Jupiter Island community, where he resides in a custom $60 million waterfront estate.

He was later arrested and booked after refusing to give the police a urine sample.

Addressing the arrest at a press conference, Marin County Sheriff John Budensiek noted that Woods had shown signs of impairment at the scene, noting that, while his breathalyzer test was negative, attending officers believed that he may have been under the influence of a substance other than alcohol.

When he declined to give authorities a urine sample, he was charged with a DUI with property damage, as well as refusal to submit to a lawful test, according to Fox News.

The sheriff added that Woods—who underwent surgery for a ruptured Achilles tendon in March 2025—explained to attending officers that he was still in recovery from the procedure.

“DUI investigators came to the scene here, and Mr. Woods did exemplify signs of impairment,” Budensiek said. “They did several tests on him. Of course, he did explain the injuries and the surgeries that he had. We did take that into account, but they did do some in-depth roadside tests.

“We really weren’t suspicious of alcohol being involved in this case, and that proved to be true at the jail … but when it came time for us to ask for a urinalysis test, he refused. And, so, he’s been charged with DUI, with property damage, and refusal to submit to a lawful test.”

Images and video taken at the scene of the crash showed Woods’ “dark colored” vehicle lying on its side on the street, while surrounded by authorities.

The sporting pro is understood to have flipped the car after attempting to pass a utility pressure cleaner truck, which he clipped during the overtake.

Neither the golfer nor his passenger is said to have sustained any serious injuries during the accident.

Shortly after he crawled out of the side of the vehicle, Woods was seen standing on the side of the road talking into his cell phone.

He was later taken into custody by local police.

The crash marks the latest in a line of vehicular incidents that Woods has been involved in over the years; in 2017, he was charged with a DUI after he was found unconscious behind the wheel of his car.

He was later revealed to have been high on several prescription painkillers at the time.

He pled guilty to reckless driving, admitting that he had experienced an “unexpected reaction” to the different drugs he was taking while self-medicating for the pain he suffered after a spinal fusion in April of that year.

The golfing legend has yet to issue a statement about the latest incident.

Woods was held at the Marin County Jail after his latest arrest for around eight hours until he was released on bail.

He was then seen being driven away from the jail by an acquaintance who picked him up in an SUV.

It’s understood Woods then returned to his home on Jupiter Island, where he has lived for more than a decade.

The Cadillac SUV that picked Woods up from the jail was seen parked in the driveway of his home in the early hours of the morning on March 28—with the New York Post reporting that the golfer’s front door had been left ajar throughout the night.

The golfing pro purchased a plum 12-acre plot in the exclusive community for $40 million in 2006 and then proceeded to raze the existing residence on the property to make way for a custom megamansion, which he initially shared with his then-wife, Elin Nordegren.

The sprawling estate, which comes complete with an array of dazzling amenities, including a massive private golf course that overlooks the Indian River, as well as a sizable swimming pool, a tennis court, and what appears to be a running track that runs along the length of a separate lap pool.

Images of the dwelling reveal that it has been divided into two structures: an enormous primary residence, as well as a second dwelling that is separated by a central courtyard and parking area.

The intracoastal property features an enormous private dock capable of housing a yacht on the river side, while on the ocean side, Woods appears to have constructed a small beach house that offers instant access to the beach.

Initial construction on the property was completed in 2010—the same year that work was completed on a custom dwelling that Woods had built for his late mother, Kultida, in the same area. It’s understood that the golf legend and his mom, who died in February 2025, moved into their respective homes at around the same time.

Kultida’s home was constructed on two adjacent lots, which the golfer bought for $1.1 million and $1.3 million in 2007, one year after his father, Earl, died.

Jupiter Island has long been known as one of the wealthiest—and most private—communities in the U.S., boasting an illustrious history that extends back decades. It was originally developed in the 1920s as a “Hollywood-like center for production companies and movie stars,” according to its official website.

More recently, the community has attracted all manner of prominent residents with its incredible privacy and top-notch security, with every coming and going carefully monitored by dedicated guards.

“Jupiter Island is tiny (it lacks even a post office), exclusive, and exceptionally wealthy, both in terms of income and home values,” real estate brokerage Douglas Elliman notes.

“At various times, its population, which hovers at around 1,000, has included the likes of sports figures Tiger Woods, Greg Norman, and Serena Williams; Averill Harriman (a Governor of New York and ambassador to the U.K.) and President George H.W. Bush; and select major entrepreneurs.”

Woods’ home is around a 25-minute drive from girlfriend Vanessa Trump’s Jupiter, FL, abode, which she purchased in 2019, and where she lives with her five children—Kai, 18, Donald III, 17, Tristan, 14, Spencer, 13, and Chloe, 11—whom she shares with her ex-husband, Donald Trump Jr.

The golfer confirmed speculation about his romance with Trump in March 2025, when he shared an Instagram post voicing his happiness about the relationship.

“Love is in the air, and life is better with you by my side! We look forward to our journey through life together. At this time we would appreciate privacy for all those close to our hearts,” he wrote, while sharing photos of the happy couple posing together.
