Inside Coastal Carolina baseball roster: How Caden Bodine, Jacob Morrison led Chanticleers to CWS final

5 hours ago 1

Coastal Carolina is back in the College World Series championship. The Chanticleers have developed a reputable baseball program down in Conway, South Carolina, and have become a staple in the college baseball postseason.

Coastal Carolina has been to the College World Series championship twice in program history. The first was in 2016, and the Chants won their first national title. Coastal Carolina is back in the championship and will have to prove themselves against LSU. This is a great matchup with Coastal Carolina riding a 26-game win streak that dates back to the regular season, and LSU is a stacked Power-4 program.

Despite being from a small school and playing in the Sun Belt, Coastal Carolina has a solid team. They have one of the best pitching rotations in college baseball, and the lineup has found ways to give the run support needed to tally wins at will.

Barthol led the team with 12 home runs during the regular season. Bodine hit an impressive .326 in 65 games with a .473 slugging percentage and a .459 on-base percentage. Don't be surprised if Coastal Carolina looks to find an advantage on the base paths. The Chanticleers had over 100 stolen base attempts as a team. Alexander was the best base swiper on the team, stealing 27 bags out of 32 attempts.

Coastal Carolina starting pitcher rotation

  • Friday starter: Jacob Morrison
  • Saturday starter: Riley Eikhoff
  • Sunday starter: Cameron Flukey

Morrison was the Chanticleers' No. 1 starter this season. With a pitching staff that ranked second nationally, though, Coastal Carolina experimented throughout the College World Series with moving the rotation around. Cameron Flukey was moved up to be the Game 1 starter. Given the run support from the lineup, the Chanticleers won his starts and then got to rely on their usual No. 1 starter to win a series, or at least keep them undefeated.

Morrison was one of the best starting pitchers in the country. You can say that was because he pitched all season in the Sun Belt, but his numbers are still impressive. Morrison started 17 games and went 12-0 with a 2.08 ERA. Eikhoff started 17 games and had a 7-2 record with a 3.10 ERA, and Flukey took a big step forward as a sophomore posting a 3.29 ERA and 8-1 record in 16 starts.
