A wild police chase through Los Angeles ended with multiple people in custody Tuesday evening after a driver in a reportedly stolen Mercedes-Benz SUV tore across freeways and city streets, narrowly avoiding crashes and weaving through traffic at high speeds.

The pursuit, caught on camera, began shortly before 6 p.m. after officers attempted to stop the white SUV, which authorities said had reportedly been stolen from the Laguna Beach area.

Initial reports also indicated the suspect may have been armed with a handgun.

Video from the chase showed the driver using the right shoulder of the southbound 405 Freeway to blast past traffic before exiting into the Del Rey neighborhood, where the pursuit continued on surface streets.

The SUV repeatedly sped through red lights, swerved between vehicles and crossed into oncoming lanes as officers followed behind.

One of the most dramatic moments unfolded on the northbound 110 Freeway when the fleeing driver encountered a large group of dirt bike riders traveling alongside the SUV.

Several of the riders were seen performing wheelies while passing the Mercedes, creating a tense and dangerous scene as the suspect merged into freeway traffic with police close behind.

The chase came to an end just before 6:30 p.m. when the driver pulled into a parking structure near Hill and Eighth streets in downtown Los Angeles.

Officers quickly surrounded the garage and established a perimeter while searching for those inside the vehicle.

Police said multiple occupants of the SUV were taken into custody after the vehicle stopped. However, authorities continued searching for at least one additional suspect believed to have fled the parking structure.

No major injuries were immediately reported, despite the reckless pursuit spanning freeways and busy city streets during the evening commute.

The investigation remains ongoing, and police have not yet released the identities of those detained or announced potential criminal charges.
