“I mean, seriously, how the fuck did we get here?” Yasmin Kara-Hanani (Marisa Abela) asks long-time frenemy Harper Stern (Myha’la) towards the end of this week’s all-new episode of HBO‘s Industry. It’s the middle of a poignant scene between the two women where all armor and artifice is shed and the two bond over all that has come before. This scene, and the euphoric clubbing scene that follows, feels like the culmination of Harper and Yas’s journeys alongside one another. And, according to series star Marisa Abela, it’s “the sum of four seasons worth of work” for the actresses.
**Spoilers for Industry Season 4 Episode 7 “Points of Interest,” now streaming on HBO Max**
In the very first episode of Industry, we learn that Harper Stern has lied about her education at SUNY Stonybrook in order to finagle a gig at Pierpoint Asset Management, while fellow grad Yasmin is a nepotism hire. Nevertheless, the two ambitious young women develop a complex friendship that sometimes soars and sometimes sours over the years.
In Industry Season 4, the on-and-off friends find themselves at odds over new banking app Tender. Yasmin and her husband Henry (Kit Harington) are deeply entrenched in the sparkly startup’s power structure and finances. Harper, on the other hand, believes Tender is a house of cards. She and her colleagues at SternTao spend the season trying to prove what an insanely lucrative short the company is.
In Industry Season 4 Episode 7 “Points of Emphasis,” Tender — and Yasmin’s marriage — come crumbling down. She leaves Henry just as he’s relapsing into addiction and thrust into financial ruin. Meanwhile, Harper and the SternTao crew know that in the morning, they will be profiting mightily from Tender’s fall. It’s at this moment, Yas reaches out to her old friend.
The conversation between the women starts with Harper telling Yasmin she never wanted to profit off of the other’s fall, but Yas calls her out. Harper admits that she has always wanted to flip their social and financial positions. “Thanks for your honesty,” Yas says.

“Will you promise me something? Will you look after me tonight?” Yasmin asks.
“When the fuck are you going to look after me?” Harper counters.
“Tonight,” Yas says.
The two then go out clubbing, sharing a kiss while dancing. The episode ends with them smoking on floor like teenaged girls. “We’re here forever, even if we can’t be,” Yasmin says.
Marisa Abela told DECIDER that this sequence was “amazing” to shoot. “You know, it’s the sum of four seasons worth of work and four seasons worth of creating a believable, rich, and complicated friendship between them,”she said.
“There’s so much history there and it really felt like a sort of nostalgic moment,” Abela said. “It felt really like we were calling back to the women that they have always been and the girls that they were in Season 1. What they always love to do together, which was to take a pill and go dancing.”
There’s only one more episode left in Industry Season 4, so this “amazing” moment between Harper and Yasmin feels both cathartic and ominous. “We’re here forever, even if we can’t be” suggests that soon the two women might have to face reality and get off that damn club floor.
The Industry Season 4 finale premieres on HBO and HBO Max on Sunday, March 1 at 9 PM ET.
