Indiana Fever dealt troubling injury news as winning streak faces new test

2 hours ago 4

Things are finally starting to click for the Indiana Fever. After a rollercoaster start to the 2026 season, Indiana enters Tuesday night's matchup against the Toronto Tempo riding its first three-game winning streak of the year. Wins over the Washington Mystics, Chicago Sky and Connecticut Sun have helped the Fever improve to 8-5, while the team's chemistry and confidence appear to be growing with every game.

That's what made Monday's injury update such an unwelcome development. Just as Indiana has started to gain momentum, the Fever received troubling news regarding rookie guard Raven Johnson, who was listed as questionable for Tuesday's game with a left ankle injury.

According to IndyStar reporter Chloe Peterson, Johnson suffered the injury during practice Monday.

"Raven Johnson is questionable with a left ankle injury for tomorrow's game against Toronto. She tweaked her ankle in the portion of practice open to media today," Peterson posted on X.

The Fever also listed Caitlin Clark as probable with the back injury that has appeared on recent injury reports. Clark has continued to play through the issue and is expected to be available against Toronto.

For Indiana, however, Johnson's status is the bigger unknown heading into game day.

Raven Johnson has become an important piece of Indiana's rotation

While Johnson's statistics don't always generate headlines, her impact has been noticeable throughout her rookie season. The former South Carolina standout has appeared in all 13 games for Indiana, averaging 4.3 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists while providing valuable depth off the bench.

More importantly, Johnson has brought exactly what made her a first-round pick. Her defense, ball-handling and ability to make smart decisions have earned the trust of head coach Stephanie White early in her WNBA career. She has often been called upon to defend opposing guards, help facilitate the offense and provide energy whenever she checks into the game.

For a Fever team that relies heavily on its backcourt, losing Johnson would remove an important layer of depth.

Fever have benefited from improved health

One of the biggest differences between this season and last year has been availability. Indiana has largely kept its core players on the floor, allowing White to establish consistent rotations and build continuity throughout the roster.

Clark, Aliyah Boston, Kelsey Mitchell and Sophie Cunningham have all been available for most of the season, helping the Fever find the rhythm that has fueled their recent success. The team's current three-game winning streak has coincided with some of its best basketball of the year. Indiana's offense has looked more fluid, the defense has improved, and the Fever are beginning to resemble the contender many expected entering the season.

Johnson has quietly played a role in that progress.

Another test awaits against Toronto

The Fever now turn their attention to the Toronto Tempo, looking to extend their winning streak to four games and continue climbing the WNBA standings. Whether Johnson will be available remains one of the biggest questions entering the matchup.

The questionable designation offers some hope that the injury isn't serious, but ankle injuries can be unpredictable, especially for guards who rely on quickness and lateral movement. For now, Fever fans will be watching Tuesday's injury report closely.

Indiana has spent the last week building momentum. The challenge now is making sure an unexpected injury setback doesn't slow it down.
