Iga Swiatek crashed out of the WTA Finals after facing back-to-back losses against Elena Rybakina and Amanda Anisimova in Riyadh. Both matches went to three sets and were eerily similar.

Swiatek won the first set in both matches. However, she was lackluster in the final two sets of both matches. Rybakina took her down 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 and Anisimova defeated her 6-7, 6-4, 6-2.

On Wednesday, tennis insider Gill Gross was particularly impressed with the match between Swiatek and Anisimova. He pinpointed the exact area where Swiatek lacked.

"Iga wasn’t bad this week," Gross wrote. "Two opponents playing first strike tennis on serve AND return in suitable conditions and doing so at the highest level. As usual, the area where Swiatek needed to find some relief is her serve. Really tough against those two."

Iga Swiatek leaves Riyadh with no regrets

Iga Swiatek was the No. 2 seed entering the WTA Finals. She defeated Anisimova 6-0, 6-0 in the final at the All England Club. Anisimova avenged her loss in the US Open quarterfinal and this marked her second straight victory against the Polish star.

Following her loss against Anisimova at the WTA Finals, Swiatek admitted that she did everything in her power to change the results. However, the match helped Swiatek trend in the right direction on where she needs to improve her game.

“Okay, maybe some balls went short or something, but tennis is not going to be perfect," Switek said via Tennis 365. "So, I fought and I really didn’t give up. It wasn’t enough, which makes me sad. I will need to find some understanding because when you do everything and it’s still not enough, it means that you need to get your tennis better."

Swiatek also cited "karma" for her loss as she believes she has won too much in the last two years.

“But I felt good mentally, physically, and tennis-wise also, it was nice, looking at the conditions and everything. So I don’t really get why I couldn’t go out of the group," Swiatek added. “But maybe I won too much in the last years and this is karma. It’s really hard for me to say. It feels kind of weird.”

Overall, the Polish star shared her satisfaction with her performance. With Swiatek and Madison Keys eliminated, Amanda Anisimova and Elena Rybakina will feature in the semifinals from the Serena Williams group.
