Former Real Madrid midfielder Rafael van der Vaart has jokingly suggested that Cristiano Ronaldo would have eaten himself if he were made of chocolate. The former Netherlands midfielder believes the Portuguese superstar holds himself very high in terms of appearance.

During his recent appearances at Vandaag Inside, Van der Vaart lauded Cristiano Ronaldo for his work ethic but also made a few bizarre comments. He stated that he liked Ronaldo as a teammate at Real Madrid, but the Al-Nassr captain was always in his own world. He said (via Tribuna):

"He was a very nice teammate, but you didn't see him that much. He was only busy with himself."

However, when discussing Ronaldo's focus on his appearance, Van der Vaart claimed that the former Manchester United star carried more beauty products than the entire team combined. He added:

"He had more creams in his sports bag than all of us put together. Truly bizarre."

Continuing to talk about Cristiano Ronaldo's appearances, he claimed that the Portuguese forward would have eaten himself if he were made of chocolate. The Dutchman made the comment after he was shown a video of the Al-Nassr captain ranking himself above David Beckham in terms of appearance. He said:

"If Cristiano Ronaldo was made of chocolate, he would have eaten himself."

Rafael van der Vaart played alongside Ronaldo during the 2009-10 season, after the Portuguese forward joined Real Madrid from Manchester United. Van der Vaart then joined Hamburger SV in the summer of 2010. The two played 21 games together for Los Blancos.

Cristiano Ronaldo receives his first red card in 22 years for Portugal

During Portugal's 2-0 World Cup Qualifiers defeat against Ireland on Thursday, November 13, Cristiano Ronaldo was shown a red card following his clash with Dara O'Shea. Referee Glenn Nyberg first gave the Portuguese forward a yellow card, but it was changed to red after a review.

This was Ronaldo's first red card since he made his debut for the senior Portugal team in 2003. Since then, he has played 226 games for the Selecao das Quinas, scoring 143 goals and providing 43 assists.

Due to the sending off, Ronaldo will miss Portugal's FIFA World Cup qualifier against Armenia on Sunday, November 16. Portugal need a win against Armenia to secure a direct spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

However, if Roberto Martinez's side lose, they will have to play the play-offs. Moreover, the duration of Ronaldo's suspension lies in the hands of FIFA's disciplinary committee.
