Idaho's IDHSAA boys basketball state tournaments bring an end to the 2025-26 season with six new champions

1 hour ago 3

Idaho's IDHSAA boys basketball championship weekend was highlighted by a rematch between the Lake City [Coeur d'Alene] Timberwolves and the Owyhee [Meridan] Storm.

And this time, it was Lake City emerging as the champions, ending Owyhee Storm's two-year reign at the top of Idaho's Class 6A ranks in a 55-47 win to claim the trophy. The Timberwolves were throttled by the Storm in last year's title match, 77-46, in the biggest win in the 106-year history of Idaho's top classification in basketball, and Owyhee was widely expected to make it three in a row.

In an upset that was felt across the Gem State, however, Lake City turned the tables by turning up the heat on defense.

A surprising result in the 6A championship.

Lake City gets revenge on Owyhee from last year’s state championship. Lake City spoils Owyhee’s quest to 3-peat, winning 55-47.

In the Class 4A ranks, the Bonners Ferry Badgers also saw their two-year championship run come to a dramatic end in a 71-35 loss at the hands Cole Valley Christian [Meridian] Chargers. Bonners Ferry has played for the title four years in a row at Idaho's third-highest level of competition, with two losses now sandwiched around their two wins in the 2024 and 2025 title games.

Two other Idaho teams also came up short in their bids for consecutive championships. The Class 3A Wendell Trojans were defeated, 50-43, by the St. Maries Lumberjacks one year after beating the Declo Hornets, 53-50, in the title game. And the Class 2A Kendrick Tigers fell to the Lakeside [Plummer] Knights one year after taking down the Kamiah Kubs, 66-49, in the state finals.

The Bishop Kelly [Boise] Knights defeated the Lewiston Bengals, 59-58, in a hard-fought battle for the Class 5A title while the Rockland Bulldogs took the Class 1A trophy in a 70-67 win over the Garden Valley Wolverines.
