ICE New York City blasted the “reckless” policies of lefty Gov. Kathy Hochul and Mayor Zohran Mamdani Tuesday — as the agency released the identities of some of the criminal illegal migrants it had taken off Empire State streets, including murderers and child sex offenders.
The men, who were in the country illegally from Jamaica, El Salvador, Ecuador and Honduras, have been convicted of vile crimes including murder, rape, sexual abuse of a child under 11, forcible touching of sexual or intimate parts of another person and sexual contact with a person incapable of consent, according to ICE NYC.
ICE New York City is hitting back at the Empire State’s sanctuary politicians like Gov. Kathy Hochul and Mayor Zohran Mamdani. Matt Roberts/Shutterstock“While sanctuary politicians continue to prioritize criminal illegal aliens over law-abiding New Yorkers, our officers are on the front lines every day keeping our communities safe from murderers, rapists and pedophiles that prey on our most vulnerable citizens,” said ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Field Office Director Kenneth Genalo.
“Protecting New Yorkers from criminal illegal aliens will always be a priority for this office. We will never waver in our commitment to arrest criminal illegal aliens and remove them from our country.”
The agency then turned its ire on Hochul and Mamdani for “reckless” anti-ICE policies that “make New York less safe.”
The latest release of identities comes on the heels of Hochul’s successful push to pass legislation preventing cops from partnering with federal immigration authorities, and barring ICE agents from most public places like hospitals and parks.
It also follows a persistent pattern of legislation by Mamdani making it harder for federal agents and local law enforcement to cooperate with President Trump’s illegal immigration crackdown.
“New York City’s Mayor Zohran Mamdani signed an executive order turning New York City into a shield for violent criminal illegal aliens to reoffend and create more innocent victims,” ICE NYC said in a statement.
Shortly after he took office in January, the newly-minted mayor signed an executive order to reinforce sanctuary protections and protect New Yorkers from “abusive immigration enforcement” by the Trump administration.
“Mamdani’s action came after Gov. Kathy Hochul’s legislative proposal to bar local police departments from partnering and cooperating with ICE law enforcement,” the agency added.
The latest round of arrested illegal immigrants identified by ICE have been convicted of crimes including murder, rape, sexual abuse of a child under 11, forcible touching of sexual or intimate parts of another person and sexual contact with a person incapable of consent. The most recent batch of criminal illegal aliens rounded up in the Empire State includes:
- Mosiah Wright, a Jamaican national who was previously removed from the country who was convicted of murder by the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota. His criminal history also includes arrests for carrying a concealed weapon illegally, drug possession, resisting arrest and probation violations.
- Jose Fuentes-Saravia, a criminal illegal alien with a final order of removal from El Salvador convicted of sexual abuse, including sexual contact with individual less than 11 years old in Suffolk County.
- Vicente Mejia-Marquez, of El Salvador, who was convicted of rape in the third degree and vaginal sexual contact with a person under 17 in Suffolk County.
- Jose Israel Chapa Flores, an Ecuadorian national convicted of forcibly touching the sexual or intimate parts of another person and acting in a manner to injure a child under 17 in Suffolk County.
- Blas Alberto Diaz, a previously removed criminal illegal alien from El Salvador, was convicted of sexual contact with a person incapable of consent in Nassau County.
- Benjamin Quijada, a criminal illegal alien from El Salvador convicted of assault in Queens and wanted for the crimes of sex abuse of a minor and child abuse in Anne Arundel County, Maryland.
- Franklin Saul Banegas-Cevallos, a previously removed criminal illegal alien from Honduras who was convicted of attempted drug possession and with a pending charge for attempted criminal sale of a controlled substance in New York.
All of the offenders are currently in ICE custody awaiting pending immigration and removal proceedings, according to ICE NYC.
The agency insists New York’s failure to honor ICE detainers — which allow immigration authorities to pick up convicted criminals for deportation — has resulted in the release of 6,947 criminal illegal aliens in the state since Jan. 20, 2025.
Their crimes include 29 homicides, 2,509 assaults, 199 burglaries, 305 robberies, 392 dangerous drug offenses, 300 weapons offenses and 207 sexual predatory offenses, ICE claims.
As of Dec. 1, 7,113 aliens currently in custody in New York jails and prisons have active ICE detainers and have been convicted of 148 homicides, 717 assaults, 134 burglaries, 106 robberies, 235 dangerous drug offenses, 152 weapons offenses and 260 sexual predatory offenses, according to the agency.
