Ian Eagle calls viral moment from UConn-Duke 'once-in-a-lifetime'

UConn shocked the college basketball world in the final moments of Sunday's 74-73 win over Duke. Braylon Mullins became a March Madness hero with one flick of the wrist, sending the Huskies to a third Final Four appearance in the last four years.

Ian Eagle, who was on the call for CBS and witnessed the events unfold in front of him, took Sports Illustrated back through the moments from the Elite Eight game. In addition to perfectly narrating what happened along with Bill Raftery and Grant Hill, the reaction to the shocking finish is everything.

Eagle was asked where this play ranked for his career greats. The answer is probably a bit shocking.

"I think it’s a once-in-a-lifetime sequence," Eagle said. "Because it’s not just the shot. It’s everything that led up to the shot. That’s what made it feel so miraculous. We’ve seen big shots in big moments. But it’s rare that you get that kind of play, bang-bang, defense-to-offense, so suddenly. And that’s where I think emotion shifts and you’re just trying to mirror what others are feeling and maintain control and be accurate."

Duke came into the NCAA tournament as a No. 1 overall seed and were up by 19 points before UConn came crawling back in the final five minutes. The turnaround was perhaps one of the best in March Madness history. Besides Eagle's call, Mullins' shot, and the reaction that followed, what be remembered is how unpredictable the tourney can be.

UConn moves on to face Illinois in Saturday's Final Four game. The winner will face Michigan or Arizona in Monday's National Championship game.
