I walked 30 blocks in these wedges, and they still felt shockingly comfortable

aetrex shoe review Nishka Dhawan

I’m all about a comfortable shoe, but let’s face it, most heeled shoes are either uncomfortable or look like they were not made with style in mind.

So when I finally discovered a company that doesn’t just make comfortable footwear, but also makes footwear I can walk the streets of New York City in, I knew I had won big.

Aetrex builds shoes with support in mind, making sure foot pain, plantar fasciitis and other foot issues are kept in mind when designing each pair. In fact, the brand also makes insoles built for your feet, which you can add to your training shoes.

Where the brand really shines, though, is in its women’s footwear collection, and the one pair I’ve been wearing nonstop is the Sydney Quarter Strap Espadrille Wedge.

Available in sizes 6 to 12 and multiple colors, these wedges have supported me through busy workdays, date nights and events around the city. I’ve walked more than 30 blocks in them and never felt a hint of pain or noticed the soles wearing down.

What’s special about these shoes is their design. It starts with the comfort-focused sole, which is built for a whole host of foot issues, including heel pain and a high instep, both of which I deal with. The design also looks like it has a buckle, but it’s actually Velcro, which makes the shoes easy to put on and comfortable against your feet.

The material itself is memory foam, which keeps your feet feeling cushioned all day long. The brand also says the shoes feature antimicrobial properties that help prevent odor from forming. I found this to be true, as even after wearing them for a full day in the summer, the shoes still felt fresh once I took them off.

The heel itself, since it’s a wedge, does not feel uncomfortable or too tall. It’s the perfect addition to a summer dress or a short cocktail dress for an outdoor dinner.

Since I bought the cream-colored shoes, I remove any acquired stains with a clean, damp cloth. Dirt comes right off, which makes them easy to maintain.

Are they worth it? Our verdict

After trying tons of different styles of footwear over the past couple of years, I’m so happy to finally find a pair of everyday wedges that feel great on my feet without any pain. I’ve worn these almost daily over the past few months, and they’ve shown minimal wear and tear. If you’re looking for a pair of everyday shoes to brave the summer heat with, these are it.
