I’ve worn the Aritzia Super Puff through two NYC winters — here’s how she’s holding up

1 hour ago 2

I did it. I gave in to Super Puff syndrome, and I have zero regrets.

Meghan Markle knows how to rock it, Bella Hadid seems to bring it everywhere, and even Jennifer Lopez loves her Aritzia Super Puff. My social media pages are filled with it, and despite its egregious, almost $300 pricetag, I knew I needed to have one of my own.

You may be wondering — Why splurge on a marshmallow-shaped jacket that doesn’t seem much different from something you could find on Amazon for under $50? Well, I spend over an hour and thirty minutes walking to and from work, so if there’s a jacket that can beat bone-chilling winds and an occasional blizzard, I want to get my hands on it ASAP. With a life-threatening cold blasting the city this month, it seems perfectly justifiable to splurge on a solid jacket.

Supposedly, the Super Puff is super warm, at least that is what hoards of East Coasters have been telling me for the last couple of years. So, I put it to the ultimate test — braving hundreds of miles decked out in my Super Puff, sometimes with nothing but a thin layer beneath.

To say it’s worth it would be an understatement. Artizia is notorious for swiping those sales away in an instant, so I wouldn’t hesitate to snag that super good deal while you can.

Pros:

  • 100% responsibly sourced, 700+ fill down
  • Warming, even up to -4 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Variety of styles, cuts, and colors (vegan down-alternative option, too)
  • Snowproof, waterproof, and windproof
  • Zips and buttons, thumbholes, and plenty of pockets for storage

Cons:

  • Pricier than some other winter jackets, but down jackets are typically more expensive

Walk to the West Village and you’ll spot it on every corner. The viral Super Puff is the only jacket you’ll need season after season — equal parts stylish and functional, plus durable enough to endure rain, wind, and snow. It’s an indisputable Winter essential, according to our editors.

Available in endless variations, from glossy bombers to matte parkas, plus some bold color drops that add some spice to your basic return-to-office uniform. Its even come out with a matching canine cut to warm up your pup. The design is easy to style, fits over pretty much anything, and is universally flattering. It may not give you Skims curves, but it will hide your winter body if that’s a concern.

Sure, to say I wouldn’t survive without it might sound a touch dramatic, but the science does support that sublime Super Puff effect. Japanese fabric and a 100% responsibly sourced, 700+ fill down make it ultra-lightweight yet powerfully warming, even up to -4 degrees (which is what a Polar Vortex feels like, in my experience). Vegans need not worry as there are recycled, down-alternative options, too.

Final Thoughts

I’ve now owned the slightly cropped version of the Super Puff for two years, and I have stacked it up against some of my other longer parkas. None comes close to holding a candle to the Super Puff. It somehow keeps me warmer on my long walks than my head-to-toe jackets, and that says a lot.

It’s also held up remarkably well over the years, through everyday errands around the city, a few cold-weather hikes, and plenty of travel. I’ve washed a few times (following Artizia’s care instructions for down jackets), and it’s always come out without a scratch.

The only downside? It’s expensive. An investment piece, for sure, but considering all the wear you’ll get out of it, well worth it.

Aritzia Super Puff FAQs

What is the Aritzia Super Puff?

Take it from Aritzia. With the Super Puff, “Iconic style meets superior technical quality to create a new kind of outerwear.” Since its release in 2017, the chic jacket has taken over social media and become a favorite among A-listers who praise its lightweight build, enveloping warmth, and soft-to-the-touch feel.

The original Super Puff style has branched into an extensive family of stylish jackets and accessories for all shapes and sizes. There are vests to supers, socks to phone cases, mits and men’s styles, and many more Super Puff essentials for staying warm.

Super Puff Materials and Special Features

The Super Puff incorporates high-tech materials engineered for heat retention, like water-repellent and wind-resistant taffeta from France, innovative fabric from Japan, and 100% responsibly sourced premium down that is engineered to deliver warmth to -4 degrees.

Is the Super Puff worth it?

For anyone living in a chillier climate, the Super Puff is a wise addition to your winter wardrobe. Whether it’s worth it will depend on your budget and needs. Per our review, the Super Puff does live up to the hype — it’s well-constructed, trendy yet versatile, stocked with seamless features, and handles ice-cold temperatures like a champ. In other words, it’s super functional and doesn’t force you to sacrifice your fashion sense.

How We Tested

While testing the Super Puff, I considered a few different factors in my evaluation of the jacket: warmth and materials, style, care requirements and practicality.

  • Warmth and Materials: The SuperPuff is filled with 800+ fill-power premium down, and we found that it worked well to keep the body at an optimal temperature in freezing conditions and snow. The water-repellent fabric also proved to keep the jacket dry during light rain showers. The jacket is also surprisingly lightweight — an added perk when you’re moving around.
  • Style: Style is subjective, but the Aritzia Super Puff is offered in a variety of finishes, lengthes and colors. The overall architecture of the jacket is attractive — albeit a bit oversized- and it has a sleek look that is easy to pair with simple everyday outfits or workout clothes.
  • Care requirements: Care is a little more complicated with down jackets. According to Aritzia, the jacket is machine-washable if all the zippers are closed, and then it’s washed separately on a gentle cycle, with detergent formulated for down. I found that the jacket washed well, though it might be necessary to “re-fluff” after tumbling it dry.
  • Practicality: Over the last two years, I’ve worn the Super Puff on hundreads of outings around NYC. I’ve considered how easy it is to put on and take off, how compact it gets if you throw it in a bag, and even how well the zippers and pockets work to hold my belongings.
