A former WWE champion recently revealed how he motivated Jey Uso ahead of a recent match. The singles bout between the two stars took place at a house show.

RAW star Rusev locked horns against The YEET Master at WWE SuperShow Japan on October 18. Although The Bulgarian Brute lost, he seemed to have enjoyed the match.

In a recent interview with Shakiel Mahjouri of CBS Sports, Rusev stated that he told Jey Uso that he would go hard and not apologize for it. The 39-year-old claimed that he was doing so because of his lack of in-ring appearances during his time in AEW. He recalled telling Uso to give it their all for the Japan crowd.

"I wrestled Jey Uso in Japan, and I kind of had to light a fire up behind because I wanted to go, man. I had to tell him, 'Hey, I'm going so hard, and I'm not gonna apologize. I'm going so hard because I've had a period of time where you have one match and you don't know when the next match is coming. That's a very scary situation. Now, we have this hot crowd in Japan, let's freaking go man, let's go 150% because this building has all that history — not just all these sumo guys over here on top of the rafters, but so much professional wrestling history is in that building,'" Rusev said.

The former three-time WWE United States Champion added that after his conversation with Jey Uso, the two stars put forth an impressive 15-minute contest. Rusev added that he learned the old-school wrestling mentality of going out there and doing your best despite not feeling well from the likes of John Cena, Mark Henry, and Big Show.

"I fired a light behind his b***, and we went and kicked a** for 15 minutes, man. That's what I love about professional wrestling. Sometimes you don't feel good but you go out there, and you feel it, and you do the best you can. That's the old school mentality. That's what I learned from John Cena and Mark Henry and Big Show and all of these old-school guys," Rusev . [H/T: Fightful]

Jey Uso and Rusev lost their respective matches at WWE Saturday Night's Main Event

Rusev and Jey Uso competed in different championship matches at Saturday Night's Main Event. Unfortunately, neither of the two could secure a win.

The former AEW star competed with Dominik Mysterio and Penta in a triple threat match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship. Rusev almost won the bout when he had the masked luchador in the Accolade. However, he let go of the submission hold, thinking he had secured the win after "Dirty" Dom rang the bell. The Judgment Day member further continued to cheat his way to another title defense.

In the main event of the show, CM Punk and Jey Uso wrestled against each other for the World Heavyweight Championship relinquished by Seth Rollins due to injury. The two stars went back and forth in a rather underwhelming affair that ended with The Second City Saint securing the win.

It will be interesting to see how Rusev and Jey Uso respond to the setbacks they faced at Saturday Night's Main Event.
