A major AEW star recently responded to comparisons with WWE legend Randy Orton and stated that he doesn't want to be a second coming of anyone else.
That star is Kyle Fletcher, a major heel in All Elite Wrestling aligned with the Don Callis Family. The Protostar, who joined the Jacksonville-based promotion in 2023 as part of a tag team, broke out as a singles star this year and even had a successful run with the TNT Championship. During his career as a pro wrestler, Fletcher has drawn comparisons to fellow AEW colleague Randy Orton of WWE, and he has now addressed them.
Speaking on a recent edition of Insight by Chris Van Vliet, Fletcher revealed that he does not want to be anyone else and wants to carve out his own path.
“I don’t want to be anyone else. I don’t want to be the second coming of Will Ospreay. I think after shaving the head, I got a lot of Randy Orton [comparisons], and it’s like the same feeling of at first, that’s really cool, that’s a great comparison. But I really want to start carving my own path, and I don’t want to be the second anybody else,” said Fletcher [H/T: Drainmaker on X]Check out the interview below:
Kyle Fletcher reveals WWE was interested in him before signing with AEW.
In a separate instance of the same edition, Chris Van Vlient's Insight, Kyle Fletcher revealed that WWE showed interest in him right before he signed with All Elite Wrestling. However, the former TNT Champion stated that it didn't feel like the right fit.
“It was a toss-up for a while. We had one kind of like official [call]. At the time it was myself and Mark Davis as Aussie Open, we had like a Zoom call with them. We kind of spoke about what the deal would entail, and that sort of thing. I think when it got to that point, it just didn’t feel like the right fit at the time. So we didn’t get super close. It was kind of like at the point where there was options there. But AEW was just the right fit for us at the time," Fletcher revealed.
