Former GTA co-writer Dan Houser recently expressed that he wanted to make several DLCs during his time at Rockstar Games. While the company has released some of the most popular video games of all time, not every one of them has received DLC, especially the most popular ones.

In a recent long-form Lex Fridman podcast, Dan Houser was asked whether he wanted to make DLCs for his single-player game series. To this, Houser immediately replied that he wanted to do a lot of things during his time in the company. He stated that he would have loved a GTA Zombie game, and also touched on planned DLCs for GTA 5.

"Of course. There's always things I wished I'd done. I always wished I'd done more. The internet knows we made a DLC, single-player DLC, for GTA V that never came out. And we've also never really worked on another game. But I like the idea of it, it was a GTA zombie game. That would've been funny. I think that could've been quite fun," Houser said. [1:53:18]

He talked about a special GTA 5 DLC that Rockstar thought of releasing, in which Trevor acts as a secret agent in FIB.

Later, he said that if he had developed these extra content for previous games, future masterpieces like Red Dead Redemption 2 would not have been a reality.

"It was one where you played as Trevor, but he was a secret agent. Oh, it was cute. It never quite came together, and it was never finished. It was about half done when it got abandoned. But I think if that had come out, probably wouldn't have gotten to make Red Dead 2. So, there's always compromises." [1:53:43] "I like just doing these extra things. So, I would've personally liked to have done more of that in that company," Dan Houser concluded.

Before the Lex Fridman podcast, Dan Houser did his first on-camera interview with IGN's Senior Executive Editor, Ryan McCaffrey, at LA Comic Con 2025. During this conversation, Houser spoke about the Grand Theft Auto titles he developed during his time at Rockstar, and stated that he was excited to see how GTA 6 pans out. He clearly stated that this game will not be his brainchild and will have a story and set of characters developed by others at Rockstar.

"It's a great privilege to have worked on something that big and to, you know, I wrote the last 10 or 11 of them, so I think the world's probably had enough GTA from me. There is always a new story, it's not going to be a story that I wrote or a character set that I developed. I think it's going to be exciting. The game will be great, I'm sure," Houser said. Dan Houser co-founded Rockstar Games with his brother, Sam Houser, back in 1998. During his time in the company, he co-wrote and produced Grand Theft Auto, Max Payne 3, L.A. Noire, Bully, and the Red Dead Redemption game series.

After working for 22 years, Dan finally decided to part ways with the company in 2020 to start a new one called Absurd Ventures in 2021.
