Sometimes good things happen. Today, Deadline reported that Paramount Pictures is developing a family comedy feature based on Medieval Times, with Weird: The Al Yankovic Story director Eric Appel attached. The script comes from Blaise Hemingway, who also wrote Weird and 2021’s Clifford the Big Red Dog.

Here’s the logline:

When a struggling employee at the Orlando Medieval Times accidentally unleashes a real 9th-century knight, along with an ancient evil necromancer, he has to team up with the feral warrior to save the castle, then the world, and finally win the respect he’s always craved.

I’m still bummed we’re not getting more Dungeons & Dragons movies, but this is perhaps the next best thing?

For those not in the know, Medieval Times is an immersive dining experience where you sit in a stadium, drink a lot while eating a meal with no silverware, and cheer for various knights on horseback jousting each other for reasons I can’t currently recall. There’s also an interlude with a falcon, which is cool. As someone who has been to at least three Medieval Times locations, I can attest that it’s a fun family experience and also a great way to celebrate a 30th birthday with 30 of your closest friends.

The project is still in its early days, so there’s no news on if/when the film will go into production or make its way to theaters. If/when it premieres, however, I will be seated and gnawing on a chicken leg. icon-paragraph-end
