A husband confessed to killing his wife and then hiding her decomposing body for a month in their Texas home — telling cops he decided to “go big or go home” for his first crime, according to authorities.

Charles Byrd, 49, was arrested Sunday after a day-long manhunt was triggered by an unidentified relative who told police Byrd had admitted to killing his wife, Angela Byrd, Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said at a press conference Sunday.

His 44-year-old wife’s body was found wrapped in plastic in the house, where he had lived alongside it as it decomposed for a month, the sheriff said.

“He detailed to the investigator that he had never been arrested before, that he had never committed a crime before, and then blurted out the comment to our investigator, ‘You know, go big or go home,’” Salazar recalled.

“That was pretty shocking to me.”

Byrd made a similar confession to a reporter after he was arrested at a vacant home a mile away from the crime scene, KSAT reported.

“I’m so sorry. I loved my wife,” Byrd said, blaming it on a “mental break.”

He was cooperative with cops as he detailed how he violently attacked his wife on June 16, officials said.

The unhinged hubby reportedly also told investigators he knew Angela’s body would be found eventually.

Byrd was charged with tampering with evidence with the intent to impair a human corpse. Murder charges are pending as his wife’s cause of death is not yet determined, authorities said.

He is currently awaiting a mental health evaluation and remains in custody at the Bexar County Jail.
