Jaire Alexander is on the move again after only four and a half months. On Saturday, the Baltimore Ravens were reported to have traded the former All-Pro/Pro Bowl cornerback (as well as a 2027 seventh-round pick) to the Philadelphia Eagles for a 2026 sixth-round pick (that formerly belonged to tthe Denver Broncos):

A rare in-season Saturday trade: the Ravens are sending former Pro-Bowl CB Jaire Alexander and a 2027 seventh-round pick to the Eagles in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round pick, per sources.

And there was a flurry of reactions in the aftermath:

@AdamSchefter WHY ARE TEAMS STILL TRADING WITH PHILLY??

@AdamSchefter How much help does Jalen Hurts need

"How much help does Jalen Hurts need?" one wondered. "Can’t believe I’m gonna say this but GOOD! Absolute liability," another sighed. "Holy shit we’re so back," another salivated.

Initially signed in June to provide cornerback depth behind Marlon Humphrey and Nate Wiggins, Alexander has struggled mightily with injuries and poor play. He has played just 61 defensive snaps in two games this season so far and allowed a passer rating of 118.7 when targeted, according to Pro Football Reference.

In fact, he was a healthy scratch for the Ravens' 28-6 win at the Miami Dolphins this past Thursday as star quarterback Lamar Jackson returned from injury - the fifth time he has been one.

Questions abound after Jaire Alexander's move to Eagles

In an instant reaction to the Jaire Alexander trade, Sports Illustrated's Gilberto Manzano shared some thoughts on what this would mean for both sides involved.

First, for the Eagles, there has been talk of moving Cooper DeJean from the slot to the outside beside 2024 batchmate Quinyon Mitchell after the acquisition of Michael Carter II from the New York Jets. Alexander could serve as a depth piece and mentor behind that group, but there is a catch:

"It’s unknown where Alexander will fit with the sudden depth in the back end of the Eagles’ defense—a good problem to have for a passing defense that has been up and down most of this season. Perhaps he could eat into the snaps of the struggling Adoree’ Jackson, but Alexander failed to make a role for himself in Baltimore."

Then, for the Ravens, it represents yet another step forward in their defensive overhaul, after their stunning decision to dump edge rusher Odafe Oweh onto the Los Angeles Chargers for safety Alohi Gilman:

"This Baltimore defense probably won’t look back now with a healthy Kyle Hamilton and a much-improved defense that has been pivotal during this two-game winning streak."

Alexander's first game as an Eagle will very likely be at his old team in the Green Bay Packers on November 10, after the bye week.
