How Tobias Harris perfectly fits Spurs' starting lineup after signing from Pistons

The San Antonio Spurs needed a guy just like Tobias Harris.

Good thing Harris was a free agent. That made it easy.

They signed him to a contract on Wednesday, with ESPN's Shams Charania reporting the two-year deal:

Just in: Free agent forward Tobias Harris has agreed to a two-year, $31 million deal with the San Antonio Spurs, sources tell ESPN. Harris exits the Pistons after helping lead a franchise turnaround and now joins a young contending team in the Western Conference. pic.twitter.com/4YnmbrBuTd

Harris was just part of the Eastern Conference's No. 1 seed with the Pistons.

Now, he joins the West's NBA Finals representative to try to push them over the top.

Spurs lineup projection with Tobias Harris

We're going to do this on the assumption that De'Aaron Fox will get ousted by Dylan Harper:

  • PG: Dylan Harper
  • SG: Stephon Castle
  • SF: Julian Champagnie
  • PF: Tobias Harris
  • C: Victor Wembanyama

Harris can shoot and rebound, and he replaces the role of Devin Vassell in the starting lineup.

Keldon Johnson can still contribute, doing a lot of the things Harris does, just continuing to do it off the bench like he did for much of last season.

The Spurs will be deep, and they'll be really good.
