How to watch Walden Grove at Salpointe Catholic in Arizona high school softball playoffs

A pair of conference rivals square off in the second round of the Arizona high school softball playoffs.

Walden Grove travels to Tucson Tuesday evening to take on Kino Conference foe Salpointe Catholic in Round 2B of the Arizona Interscholastic Association Class 4A tournament.

In the opening round on May 3, No. 10 seed Walden Grove posted a 5-3 win against No. 7 Ironwood Ridge. The Red Wolves (14-11) are led by juniors Natalie Holzer and Maddie Holzer.

Natalie Holzer is the team’s top hitter, batting .468 and has a team-high 29 hits and slugging percentage of .855, while Maddie Holzer is the Red Wolves’ on-base leader (.571). Maddie Holzer is also the team leader in earned run average (2.53). Oliviah Valdez, a sophomore, homered and drove in two runs in the win against Ironwood Ridge.

Salpointe Catholic, the No. 2 seed, recorded a 4-0 shutout against No. 15 seed Douglas in its first round game on May 3.

Leading the Lancers is senior Leylani Cuesta, who has batted .540 with an on-base average of .567, both team highs. Sophomore Isabel Otero has four home runs, and senior Molli Daley has driven home 21 runs, and homered in the first-round playoff win.

Junior pitcher Macee Jackson has an 0.80 ERA while senior pitcher Audri Elias has a 1.96 ERA, and both have each won nine games. Jackson pitched a one-hit shutout in the first-round playoff win, striking out 11.

The winner of Tuesday night’s game moves on to Round 3B against the winner of the playoff game between No. 6 Flagstaff and No. 14 Poston Butte.
