Though the main draw doesn’t get started until next week, the second year of the US Open’s revamped mixed doubles tournament kicks off today.
A $1 million prize is on the line in the mixed doubles tournament, which features many of the biggest names in tennis including No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka and 25-time grand slam champion Novak Djokovic making their competitive debut as the tournament’s No. 1 seed.
The competition will also see the return of Carlos Alcaraz, who will be back on the court following the wrist injury that forced him to withdraw from the French Open and Wimbledon. Alcaraz, who has never won a mixed doubles title, will play with Serena Williams. Mixed doubles may be the only chance viewers get to watch Williams play at Arthur Ashe this year, as she will not be playing singles in New York.

Defending two-time US Open mixed doubles champions Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori and Jessica Pegula and Taylor Fritz are among the other pairs confirmed for the event.
Each match in the mixed doubles tournament will be best of three sets, and to win a set, a team needs to win four games.
The Wednesday final will be a best-of-three-set match with sets to six games.
