One of three teams with a perfect record left in the 2026 World Baseball Classic, Italy hopes to continue that run this afternoon in the semifinals.
Italy went 4-0 in the first round of the WBC, beating Brazil, Mexico, the United States and Great Britain to claim the top spot in Pool B. With 12 home runs, they’re two shy of a tournament record (currently held by Mexico).
They’ll face Puerto Rico this afternoon. Puerto Rico finished second in Pool A behind Canada, who handed them their only loss of the group stage. Three big wins against Colombia, Panama and Cuba helped them advance. Team Puerto Rico currently possesses the best pitching in the WBC with a collective 1.22 ERA across 37 innings.
