Melissa’s record-setting softball squad keeps on rolling.
The Cardinals remain undefeated and are coming off a two-game sweep in their UIL 5A Division I Quad 2 regional semifinal against Midlothian. In the first game of that series, Melissa set a new national single-season record for home runs by one team.

Now, the Cardinals play another best-of-three series, this time in the regional final against Lake Belton, with the winner moving on to next week’s semifinals. Game 1 of the series will be Wednesday night in Alvarado.
The series then takes a day off before resuming Friday with Game 2, which will be in Cleburne. Then if necessary, a decisive Game 3 takes place right back at Alvarado on Saturday afternoon.
How an NBA playoff game decided a Texas high school softball playoff
Melissa (34-0) is coming off last week’s regional semifinal sweep against Midlothian, winning both games by a combined 29-1. The Cardinals also added to their record-setting home run total, as they now have hit 112 round-trippers on the season.
Junior Kennedy Bradley, a Florida commit, leads the way with 23 homers, followed by 17 each from sophomore Finlee Williams and senior Caigan Crabtree, a Texas commit. Sophomore Hutton Adrian continues to be the team’s leader in batting (.651) and on-base percentage (.739).
Sophomore pitcher Eloisa Maes now stands at 27-0 on the season with an earned run average of 1.17. She’s also closing in on 200 strikeouts, as Maes now has 199 in 114 innings.
Familiarity will be on Lake Belton’s side in the regional final, at least in Game 1. The Broncos played a one-game playoff in their regional semifinal last week against Prosper Walnut Grove, which was played at Alvarado, with Lake Belton coming away with the win, 2-1.
In that win, pitcher Maddison Ruiz gave up two hits while striking out 12. Both Lake Belton runs came in the third inning on back-to-back two-out RBI doubles from Madison Naser and Brysen Gott.
Lake Belton enters the regional finals at 34-2 overall and is currently riding a 24-game win streak.
