Where Winds Meet’s Mystic Arts are incredibly powerful, and one of the earliest you can unlock is Meridian Touch. If you’re just pushing through the story and not exploring, there’s a good chance you’ll overlook this one, but I don’t recommend it. Whether or not you’re a combat expert, you can always use a way to stop enemies from hitting you in the face, so this one’s absolutely a must have.
Thankfully, there didn’t appear to be any major unlock requirements for it, either. Once you’re able to fully explore the Verdant Wilds, you can head over to this brief side quest and unlock one of the best tools you’ll use throughout the game.
Steps to unlock Meridian Touch Mystic Art in Where Winds Meet
Once you have access to explore Verdant Wilds in Where Winds Meet, you can unlock the powerful Meridian Touch Mystic Art. Just head to the location on the map below, or select the Blue Tome on the map and click track. If you’ve already been through this area and are coming back, you can fast travel to the Stonewash Strand Boundary Stone.
You can do this one early, and since it requires no combat, it's highly recommended to run over and do it as soon as you can (Image via NetEase)Thankfully, there are no intense puzzles to solve for this one, like you find in Echoes of Old Battles, but you will see a lot of very unsettling people, who appear to be turned to stone. When you’re ready, cross the small body of water and go speak to the quest giver, and grab some Wild Mushrooms along the way to cook later. There’s also a treasure chest behind Yan Qiren in this area. It has a pair of Adept Bracers, so it’s also worth scooping up.
Speak to Yan Qiren to examine him, who will then accuse your character of being his son, and making things all about Meridian Touch in this Where Winds Meet quest. Instead of leaving this man to starve to death as a statue, your character will ask how to use Meridian Touch.
The correct answer is "Immobilized" (Image via NetEase)Follow the command prompt on screen to attempt to help Yan Qiren relieve the acupoints afflicting them. In my case it was R2+Square, as I played on a PlayStation 5 controller. You’ll see a few potential maladies pop up, each with their own button: Immobilized, Overjoyed, Itchy. Select Immobilized.
This will free Yan Qiren from being frozen, and thus, complete the quest. You’ll also receive 1x Medicinal Tales, 2,000 Zhou Coins, 1x Level 1 Ebon Iron, Decoration: Strange Statue, and 2,000 EXP. You’ll also be asked to equip Meridian Touch, which you should do.
What does Meridian Touch do in Where Winds Meet?
Meridian Touch is one of your Puzzle Mystic Arts in Where Winds Meet, and can be used in and out of battle in specific situations. Out of battle, you’ll occasionally meet NPCs who are struggling with some kind of malady that requires a change to their acupoints.
If you see a symbol like this pop up over an enemies' head, the skill worked (Image via NetEase)A good example is an NPC who was trying to stand in a specific position for a few seconds, to improve their training. You can immobilize them with Meridian Touch for a few moments, and receive a reward as thanks. Just keep an eye out for these people, and use the correct Meridian Touch.
In combat, Meridian Touch selects and strikes acupoints to deal Physical Damage, and also has a chance to briefly Immobilize your opponent. It usually lasts a good couple of seconds. It’s just enough to either get away, or set up a powerful attack.
However, it is ineffective against Mighty Enemies, so do keep it in mind. This is such a powerful Mystic Art, I keep it on my main Mystic Art bar and stun enemies with it frequently. If they can’t move, they can’t hit you.
