The Chainscourged Mail is the newest addition to the Barbarian’s arsenal in Diablo 4 Season 11. This new unique item is designed to work with the Brawling skills of the Barbarian, greatly reworking how the cooldowns and damage scaling work for Brawling-based Barbarian builds in Diablo 4. This can potentially allow specific builds to dominate the endgame content by offering a great amount of damage from its unique effect.
In this guide we will break down its affixes, unique effects, how you can get the Chainscourged Mail, and how to use it.
Diablo 4: What is the Chainscourged Mail?
The Chainscourged Mail is the new ancestral unique pants made specifically for the Barbarian class. You need to be Level 78 or more to equip it. With a high roll, it can easily provide a potent offensive scaling in the endgame of Diablo 4. Its unique ability makes it special amongst all Barbarian uniques, as it completely bypasses the regular cooldown mechanics and replaces them with skill disabling and enabling after use.

- +51 - 65 All Stats (up to +98 with mastercrafting)
- +424 - 526 Maximum Life (up to +685 with mastercrafting)
- +2 - 3 Ranks to Brawling Skills (up to +5 with mastercrafting)
- 8.1 - 8.8% Cooldown Reduction (up to 13.2% with mastercrafting)
These stats provide the Barbarian with decent survivability and cooldown reduction (CDR) and directly scale the Brawling skills.
Unique effects of the Chainscourged Mail
Here's the unique effect that you need to keep in mind:
- Casting a damaging Brawling Skill disables it afterwards. When all of these Skills that are on your Action Bar are disabled, they become re-enabled with their Cooldowns refreshed. Brawling Skills you Cast deal 20.0 - 100.0%[x] increased damage for each disabled Skill.
This means you can use the Chainscourged Mail to reset all Brawling skills on your skillbar once every single one of them has been cast. This mechanic can be used in two specific ways: you can either use a single Brawling skill (such as Kick, War Cry, Charge, or Leap) to instantly reset them after use, creating a spammable setup.
On the other hand, you can use two or three Brawling skills to get a massive damage boost alongside the cooldown reset from the Chainscourged Mail.

Diablo 4: How to get the Chainscourged Mail
The Chainscourged Mail can be acquired from multiple sources in Diablo 4, but some have a higher drop rate than others. Here are all the ways you can acquire the Chainscourged Mail unique pants:
1) Boss farming: Lord Zir
Lord Zir can be encountered in any torment difficulties in Diablo 4 (Image via Blizzard Entertainment)As of now, the most reliable way to acquire the Chainscourged Mail is by targeting Lord Zir. You can find this lair boss at the Ancient's Seat in the Darkened Way dungeon, which can be found in the Fractured Peaks region of the map. Once defeated, you can access his hoard and have a chance to acquire unique items, including the Chainscourged Mail.
To open his hoard, you will need to gather 12x Exquisite Blood. You can get them from:
- Blood Maiden (Helltide events)
- Kurast Undercity (Tribute of Titans is required)
- Legion events
2) Nightmare dungeons
Nightmare dungeons are usually packed with elites and random enemies, giving you an increased chance of acquiring unique items in Diablo 4. Additionally, completion rewards can yield unique items. This chance is further increased if you run nightmare dungeons in torment difficulties.

3) Events and world bosses
World events and bosses can also drop unique items in higher difficulties (Image via Blizzard Entertainment)Diablo 4 is packed with events and world bosses who offer a higher chance to drop random unique items, including the Chainscourged Mail.
Among them, Helltides offer the highest chance of dropping a unique item due to the sheer number of rewards available. Slay enemies and acquire Aberrant Cinders and use them to open rewards like the Tortured Gift of Protection and Tortured Gift of Mystery.
Legion events and world bosses also have a solid chance of dropping unique items. Although a lower chance than Helltides, it is still worth including in your farming loop.
4) Purveyor of Curiosities
Once you have collected enough Murmuring Obols while exploring the map, you can use them to gamble for the pants at the Purveyor of Curiosities. Every roll for pants will cost 25 obols and have a chance to drop an item of anywhere between magic and unique rarity. While the drop rate is extremely low, it still counts as a viable method of acquiring materials and items in Diablo 4.
