How the Flames can draft both Ruck brothers, Liam and Markus

1 hour ago 3

There's something appealing about the idea of Liam Ruck and Markus Ruck staying together in the NHL.

The talented brothers are both forwards in the 2026 NHL Draft class, and they'll likely both be first-round picks.

That limits the options of teams that could actually get them both.

The Calgary Flames, though, appear to be one of those teams that could do it. Daily Faceoff's Matt Larkin named them as one of four possible destinations that could pull off the double-Ruck picks.

How the Flames can get both Ruck brothers

Calgary has the No. 6 pick, but that's unlikely to be used on one of the brothers (although if they were very committed to the plan, you never know).

It's what comes after that that gives Calgary a chance here.

"They also have the 30th overall pick, not to mention four second-round picks in this draft class," Larkin writes. "If the Flames wanted to energize their pipeline with the brothers, they could cobble together a few second-rounders as part of a package to move up and pick three times in the first round. They could choose one of the many well-rounded D-men available in the No. 6 range, then double up on Rucks."

The Flames won't be the only team at least imagining a possible future with two Rucks, so they might have to be aggressive if they're pulling off trades.

But where there's a will, there's a way. And to get the two brothers from the WHL's Medicine Hat Tigers to both land in Calgary would be pretty cool.
