The NBA's latest gigantic player has arrived.
After a breakthrough season and national championship at Michigan, Aday Mara is set to tower over many of his counterparts at the next level.
Mara couldn't be entering the NBA at a better time, as teams are searching for defensive solutions to Victor Wembanyama. No one is looking for Mara to be Wembanyama — the former's offensive game is limited almost entirely to the paint — but he offers size that can't be taught.
Here's what you need to know about Mara's height and how it compares to the NBA's tallest players.

How tall is Aday Mara?
Mara measured in at exactly 7-3 without shoes at the NBA Draft Combine.
Here's Mara next to former Michigan teammates Yaxel Lendeborg and Morez Johnson Jr., who both measured in at roughly 6-9.

— 𝔗𝔥𝔢 𝔇𝔢𝔱𝔯𝔬𝔦𝔱 𝔗𝔦𝔪𝔢𝔰 📰 (@the_det_times) June 23, 2026Mara was one of only two players to measure in at 7-foot or taller without shoes at the combine. The only other, Luigi Suigo, withdrew to play at Villanova next season. For teams seeking height, there will be plenty of other options but none quite like Mara.
Aday Mara wingspan
Mara had a 7'6" wingspan at the NBA Draft Combine, ranking second only behind Florida's Rueben Chinyelu, who opted to withdraw from the draft and return to school.
There are questions about how one-dimensional Mara's game will be at the next level, as he is a traditional big man rather than someone who can stretch the floor, but his size is something that can't be taught. With a 7'6" wingspan, teams are looking at Mara as someone whose shot-blocking and rebounding ability should translate well to the next level.
How tall are Aday Mara's parents?
Mara's mom, Gely Gomez, stands at 6-3 and is a former volleyball player in Spain, while his father, Francisco Javier Mara, is 6-7 and played basketball professionally for CB Zaragoza in Spain's top professional league.
It's not hard to see where the height comes from for Mara, but even his parents likely didn't expect him to reach 7-3. Sometimes it just happens that way, though; Wembanyama's parents are 6-3 and 6-6, respectively.

Aday Mara height vs. tallest NBA players
Mara is set to join Zach Edey and Rocco Zikarsky behind only Wembanyama on the list of tallest active NBA players:
| Player | Height | Team |
| Victor Wembanyama | 7-4 | Spurs |
| Zach Edey | 7-3 | Grizzlies |
| Aday Mara | 7-3 | TBD |
| Rocco Zikarsky | 7-3 | Timberwolves |
| Donovan Clingan | 7-2 | Trail Blazers |
| Walker Kessler | 7-2 | Jazz |
| Kristaps Porzingis | 7-2 | Warriors |
| Rudy Gobert | 7-1 | Timberwolves |
| Chet Holmgren | 7-1 | Thunder |
| Dereck Lively II | 7-1 | Mavericks |
| Brook Lopez | 7-1 | Clippers |
Zikarsky only played five games with the Timberwolves, in his rookie season, so height isn't everything, but the list of active players 7-1 or taller features plenty of solid contributors, from the All-NBA Wembanyama to NBA champions Chet Holmgren and Brook Lopez and four-time Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert.
Defensive Player of the Year awards won't necessarily be the standard for Mara, but whichever team drafts him will hope he can be a missing piece on the road to a championship.
