As one of the most unique and historic events in racing, winning the Indy 500 can bring a driver a newfound level of fame.
In the last few years, drivers like Alex Palou, Josef Newgarden and Helio Castroneves have emerged victorious at Indianapolis Motor Speedway — but even beyond the recognition of winning "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing," the victor also gets plenty of financial benefits.
The race's purse has grown into eight digits over the decades, with Felix Rosenqvist now set to earn a significant portion of that total amount with his 2026 win.
Here's what to know about how much Rosenqvist made by winning the Indy 500 and the 2026 race's total purse.

Indy 500 purse
The total purse for the 2026 Indy 500 was estimated between $20.5 million and $21 million. While the official amount hasn't been announced, based on 2025's total purse of $20.283 million, the figure is expected to land in that range once again.
If the purse is over $20.28 million, it would be the fifth year in a row that the Indy 500 has a new record purse.
How much money did Felix Rosenqvist win at the Indy 500?
This section will be updated when official figures are announced.
Rosenqvist's official prize money for winning the 2026 Indy 500 has not yet been announced, but prior to the race, the winner's earnings were estimated to be between $3.5 million and $4 million. That estimate took into consideration the total purse pool, as well as the assumed increase from last year's winner, Alex Palou, who took home $3.833 million.
The total prize money at the Indy 500 depends on laps led, sponsorships and the pole winner; the winner does not get a flat, pre-determined percentage of the total purse.
