How many MLB players have hit for the cycle? Reds' JJ Bleday joins short list

1 hour ago 3

After joining his fourth team in his first five MLB seasons since being drafted fourth overall in the 2019 MLB Draft, many baseball minds may have forgotten about JJ Bleday's potential. That is, baseball minds not named JJ Bleday.

On Saturday evening against the Arizona Diamondbacks, Bleday tallied a single, double, triple and home run to become the 12th player in Cincinnati Reds history to hit for the cycle.

It took the outfielder just four at-bats to immortalize his name in Reds lore, and perhaps this will provide him with a building block the 28-year-old can use to push his career to the next level.

Here's a look at Bleday's cycle and the history behind it.

How many MLB players have hit for cycle?

On Saturday, Bleday's outing became the 354th cycle in MLB history, according to Elias Sports Bureau and the MLB. He is only the 12th Red ever to join the exclusive club.

Bleday became the fourth player during the 2026 season to tally a single, double, triple, and home run in a single game.

JJ Bleday hits for cycle

In the first inning against Michael Soroka, Bleday hit a 101.6-mph rocket down the right-field line to drive in Elly De La Cruz from second base and give the Reds the opening lead. Just two innings later, the outfielder launched a ball deep into the right-center gap to drive in Sal Stewart, with Bleday ending his running journey at third base.

Bleday's fourth-inning at-bat featured a ground ball into right field for a single, meaning he needed an elusive home run. That 370-foot blast came off reliever Zack Littell and ended up in the right-field corner seats. In his first four at-bats, Bleday checked all four boxes required for a cycle.

Who was the last player to hit for the cycle?

The most recent cycle came from Chicago White Sox outfielder Tristan Peters on July 10 of 2026 against the Athletics. With his team wearing their special Chicago Bulls-themed jerseys, Peters needed a triple when he stepped up to the plate in the seventh inning.

After a groundball trickled just past the first baseman and into the right field corner, Peters raced around first, then second, before finally reaching his final destination on third base. He became the seventh White Sox player to write his name in the cycle record books.
