Kristen Bell almost forgot her upcoming wedding anniversary with husband Dax Shepard and was reminded of the milestone during a hilarious moment at the premiere of the second season of her Netflix series, Nobody Wants This. For the uninformed, Shepard and Bell tied the knot on October 17, 2013, and celebrated their 12th anniversary this year.
At the premiere on October 16, Entertainment Tonight asked her about the significance of October 17. A confused Bell seemed perplexed at what the date signified before suddenly remembering her anniversary.
“The beginning of the weekend? The Wrexham Charity Gala?...Oh my god! It’s my anniversary! You know, I don’t remember that. Oh shoot. I’m so glad you told me," she said. When the interviewer asked whether Shepard was at home preparing for the anniversary, Bell replied:
“He's at home watching our children. I don't know if he's prepping. I don't know if making mac and cheese counts as prepping for the anniversary. But we are having a date night tomorrow. Wow, what a curveball you threw at me. It helps that he doesn’t remember either. Like no one’s at fault here, right? We’re just not great with dates.”This is not the first time that Kristen Bell has admitted to forgetting her wedding anniversary. In 2019, the actress took to her Instagram to upload two posts about her 5-year wedding anniversary, saying that neither she nor her husband remembered the occasion till they received wishes from loved ones.
In one post, the Frozen actress wrote that the date was "irrelevant" as both she and Shepard "have been living the celebration of our commitment every moment since," adding:
"We were reminded by family and friends that at some point last week, it was our 5 year wedding anniversary. In truth, neither of us remember which day. Thats because we have been living the celebration of our commitment every moment since. I find when you are living with gratitude each moment, the dates become irrelevant." "To get to wake up next to someone who has put hard work, respectful fights, patience, understanding and gratitude into your relationship is the definition of love. I will never remember the date of our anniversary @daxshepard, and i know you wont either. And thats just one more thing i love about us."Exploring Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard's relationship timeline
Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard did not experience the typical love at first sight when they were first introduced to each other at a mutual friend's birthday party in 2007. In a 2019 interview with TODAY, Bell admitted that her first impression of Shepard was that he talked too much, adding there were "no sparks whatsoever."
The two reportedly ran into each other at a hockey game two weeks later and "started to flirt." The actress added that Shepard reached out to her the following day via text, saying:
“Truly, his first text to me was: ‘Hi. My name is Dax. I violated your privacy and got your number from Shauna. How do you feel about that?’ And I was like, 'Excuse me? You sound stimulating.'"The pair dated for a while but broke up after realizing that they had different expectations. In a 2017 interview with PopSugar, Bell revealed that she was already in love with Shepard, but he was still uncertain and had been dating other people. However, they reconciled days later and remained exclusive.

In 2010, the couple announced their engagement after Bell was spotted with an engagement ring at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards. They refrained from getting married till the state of California legalized LGBTQ+ marriage. Kristen Bell explained why she and Shepard decided to wait in a 2012 interview with The Advocate, saying:
"I don’t feel appropriate taking advantage of a right that’s denied to my best friends. That’s why we’ve been so hesitant. Dax and I have talked about it a lot, and this issue is very important to both of us. We’re just standing up for what we believe in. Period."Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard had their first daughter, Lincoln, in March 2013, and tied the knot that October at the Beverly Hills County Clerk’s Office, three months after California legalized same-sex marriage. In a 2022 interview with TODAY, the actress recalled that her wedding cost only $147. In December 2014, Bell and Shepard welcomed their second child, another daughter named Delta.

The couple has been open about their relationship problems, revealing that they went to couples counselling to strengthen their marriage during the COVID-19 pandemic. They also admitted to being very different people, with Kristen Bell telling E! News in 2024 that she "married [her] polar opposite."
However, despite their differences, Bell added that they built "a foundational trust" in each other, saying:
"I married my polar opposite. We are the antithesis of each other. We argue about absolutely everything, but there is a foundational trust that we've built that keeps us together and is quite stimulated by one another's opinions... Being with someone who you are unlike or you don't have a ton of similarities with, it forces you to grow."Nobody Wants This season 2, starring Kristen Bell, Adam Brody, and Leighton Meester, is scheduled to stream on Netflix on October 23, 2025.
