How Knicks' Moussa Cisse offer sheet works, and what deadline Mavericks have to match it

3 hours ago 4

The New York Knicks want Moussa Cisse on their roster for next season.

They've put pressure on the Dallas Mavericks to decide whether they want him more.

On Saturday, the Knicks agreed to a two-year contract offer sheet with Cisse, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.

Cisse comes from the Mavs, and he's a restricted free agent, which brings about this offer sheet process.

The 6-foot-11 center was a rookie in 2025-26 and averaged 4.5 points and 5.7 rebounds per game in 38 appearances for Dallas.

The Knicks lost Mitchell Robinson this offseason and may see Cisse as a potential replacement, if the Mavericks let him go.

How does the Moussa Cisse offer sheet work?

When a player is a restricted free agent, like Cisse, their previous team has matching rights. They aren't entirely able to just sign and leave.

An RFA can sign an offer sheet with another team, in this case like Cisse with the Knicks, and their original team has a chance to match.

If the Mavs choose, they can keep Cisse for exactly the deal the Knicks offered him.

If the Mavs decline, Cisse then goes to the Knicks.

What's the deadline?

There are 48 hours after the offer sheet agreement is reached for the original team to decide to match and keep the player.

Charania reported the deal at 1:51 p.m. ET on Saturday. That means by midday Monday, a decision should've been reached one way or another.
