How has Andrew Painter been performing ahead of Phillies' call-up?

On Friday afternoon, the Philadelphia Phillies announced that they were calling up Andrew Paitner from Triple-A Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs to start their opening match against the Baltimore Orioles later in the evening. His start at Camden Yards certainly won't be anything new for Painter, given that he received some serious run time with Philadelphia earlier in the season, something just wasn't clicking for the rookie.

Prior to tonight's game against the Baltimore Orioles, the Phillies recalled RHP Andrew Painter from Lehigh Valley (AAA). To make room for him on the 26-man roster, RHP Brian Keller was optioned to Lehigh Valley.

Across his 14 appearances with the Phillies, Painter posted a record of 1-8 and an ERA of 7.06, proving to suffer from some command issues before the team's front office made the decision to send him down to the minor leagues again to find himself. But that begs the question: how did he perform during his recent stint?

Painter's minor league stint

Since his demotion to the Iron Pigs, Painter has made five starts at the Triple-A level, having a few shaky appearances shared in between them. While he allowed seven runs in his third start back in the minor leagues, having only lasted 2.2 innings on the mound, he had other starts where he would fan eight batters, lasting five frames on the rubber.

When all was said and done, the Phillies' rookie posted an ERA of 4.56 throughout his five starts, fanning 25 batters with an SO9 of 9.5, which could indicate that he might have found some fixes for the issues he was suffering at the MLB level. But that will remain to be seen until Friday night, when the 23-year-old will take to the mound against the Orioles.

Baltimore should be a comfortable jumping point for Painter, given that the American League side has struggled from the batter's box this season, posting a team slashline of .237/.321/.394 with 127 home runs, which puts them in the middle of the pack. First pitch between the Orioles and the Phillies is slated for 7:05 p.m. EST on Friday night.
