Trevor Noah Hosting Grammys for the 6th Time—But There's a Catch
Trevor Noah has always hosted music's biggest night to the beat of his own drum.
Serving as emcee for the sixth and final time, the comedian opened the 2026 Grammys Feb. 1 with a monologue that may have been light on zingers but packed with cheer and reverence for all the talent in the building at Los Angeles' Crypto.com Area. (See all the stars in attendance at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards.)
And when he stopped at Justin Bieber's table, he called the Album of the Year nominee nothing less than a hero. Which Hailey Bieber found hilarious.
"Justin Bieber is back in the house—look at this!" Noah raved. "This man has done so many amazing things. His album Swag nominated, four Grammy nominations. And I think, better than any Grammy, he's come back as a new dad. Congratulations to both of you!"
But welcoming son Jack Blues Bieber wasn't the heroic part.
"My personal favorite thing Justin Bieber has done over the past year is," Noah explained, "he told Apple to move the dictation button on the keyboard. Hero, Justin. Now I just need you to tell them to make a new feature where, when you search on your phone, it finds things. Please, Justin, we need you."
Hailey promptly cracked up.

"And by the way, Hailey," Noah added, addressing the Rhode Beauty founder, "do you have a discount code for the lip tint? I just need—you know, it's fine, we'll talk later."
If Hailey and Pharrell Williams, who's currently creative director of Louis Vuitton menswear, come through on those codes, Noah will be ending his tenure in real style.
The 41-year-old former Daily Show host—and a four-time Grammy nominee himself, including this year in the Best Audio Book, Narration & Storytelling Recording category for Into the Uncut Grass—has never gone the full roast route when it comes to acknowledging the star power inside Los Angeles' Crypto.com Arena. Rather, while weaving in the occasional crack about politics or world events, he's more inclined to find the fun in the artists' most lofty accomplishments, last year calling Taylor Swift fans "an army of Kendrick Lamars" as a testament to their power.
“I am 1,000 percent a fan, and what I love about the Grammys is that I become a fan of a new artist every single time,” Noah told Billboard in 2022. “What many people don't realize is how much work goes into the performances. Getting every single key right, every lighting cue perfect, choreographing all the moves between the cameras and the artists. You don't truly appreciate it until you get behind the scenes, and I think that's what makes me enjoy the show even more.”
While Swift isn't in the mix this time, The Life of a Showgirl's Oct. 3 release date making it eligible for next year's Grammys, Kendrick Lamar leads all comers in 2026 with nine nominations, including Album of the Year and Best Rap Album for GNX, Record and Song of the Year (with SZA) for "Luther," Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for his role in SZA's "30 for 30," and Best Rap Song for "tv off," featuring Lefty Gunplay.
Meanwhile, according to Grammys executive producer Ben Winston, 2025 almost marked Noah's final year in the role, as the Born a Crime author said he planned on being in South Africa when the 2026 Grammys were due to take place.
"'I'm going to be home for a bit, so I definitely can't do it,'" Winston said on CBS Mornings Jan. 30, recalling what Noah told him a year ago. "'So, five years now, and I've loved it.' And I went, 'I really appreciate it, I'm gutted.' 'Cause I love making it with him. He's smart, he's funny, he's intelligent." (And, not least, Winston noted, Noah copes really well when the producer is animatedly shouting directions into his earpiece.)
Winston said that he met with a few other people—"I went on a few dates," he quipped—"and I just didn't feel great. And I just looked at this lineup, and it was just before Christmas, and I sent him a video from my house. I had the whole lineup, I said, 'Look who's on the show.'"
"I said, 'The only thing's missing is, I need you,'" the 13-time Emmy winner continued. "It felt like the bubbles on my phone were going for like 20 minutes."
Obviously, Noah allowed himself to be wooed back to the final ceremony being broadcast by Paramount's CBS before Disney's ABC takes over in 2027 (and he really only took about 30 seconds to respond), but under the condition that this year be his last hurrah.
"I'm so delighted," Winston said, "because he just gives you something that you so need on a night like this."
