The Philadelphia Eagles are heading into their London matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars as underdogs. Their offense is severely depleted with injuries, and the defense has a few issues as well.

Lane Johnson retired, Cam Jurgens was traded, and all of Saquon Barkley, DeVonta Smith, and Drew Kendall are out this week. But the Eagles got some good news on defense, as Quinyon Mitchell and Zack Baun are playing this week.

Still, the Eagles are big underdogs this week against the Jacksonville Jaguars. However, one statistic that ESPN Research shared points to one way the Eagles might be able to stifle the Jaguars' offense this week and potentially get an upset win.

How Eagles' defense can stifle Jaguars' offense in Week 5

"The Eagles have allowed the second-lowest QBR on deep passes (20-plus air yards) this season," ESPN Research shared. "Opponents have completed 27% of deep passes for zero touchdowns and two interceptions against Philly."

While the early-season struggles from this Eagles team are very apparent, one thing they've done really well so far is not to allow deep passes to work.

Against an explosive Jaguars passing attack led by Trevor Lawrence, Brian Thomas Jr., Jakobi Meyers, and Parker Washington, this one facet of the game being in the Eagles' favor could help keep this game close.

So long as the Eagles' run defense can contain Bhayshul Tuten and the Jaguars' running backs, their pass defense's ability to limit deep shots could keep the Eagles' struggling offense in this game.

Of course, a lot still needs to go right on offense for the Eagles to even have a chance against this very good Jaguars team. But this strong defense against downfield passing attempts is a good place to start.

Cooper DeJean, Riq Woolen, and Mitchell will have their hands full with a good receiver room from the Jaguars. But if they continue to limit the passing attack downfield like they have this season, they'll have a chance this weekend.

Just as a depleted Eagles team was able to hang around with the Los Angeles Rams in Week 4 due to how they limited big plays, the same could happen in Week 5 and keep this struggling Eagles team in the game come the fourth quarter.
