How Browns got better value for Myles Garrett than Cowboys did for Micah Parsons

The Cleveland Browns pulled off one of the biggest blockbuster trades in NFL history, sending Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams.

Less than a year ago, the Dallas Cowboys also traded their superstar edge rusher, sending Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers.

With the full terms of this Browns return now known, which team did better? ESPN's Ben Solak believes that the Browns got a much better return for Garrett than the Cowboys did for Parsons.

Browns did better in their blockbuster edge trade than Cowboys did

"It's hard to compare apples to apples with the Myles Garrett deal and Micah Parsons deal because the Packers had to extend Parsons, whereas the Rams inherit an existing Garrett contract," Solak writes. "But the Browns' trade compensation dramatically clears the Cowboys' imo."

The Browns are sending Garrett to the Rams for 25-year-old edge rusher Jared Verse (entering year three), a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick, and a 2029 third-round pick.

The Cowboys sent Parsons to the Packers for Kenny Clark, a 2026 first-round pick, and a 2027 first-round pick. Jerry Jones got two first-rounders and a player, but the Browns' package is better.

Cleveland got the better player, as Verse is a much better player, both from a cost and talent standpoint, than Clark for the Cowboys.

While the draft pick compensation leans towards Dallas simply because of the two first-rounders compared to the first, second, and third rounders, the Browns are still coming out on top on this trade.

The Browns are getting a superstar young edge rusher in Verse, who, on his own, is worth more than a first-round pick. The Cowboys got two firsts and Clark, but the Browns' package for Garrett is a bit stronger.

Of course, as Solak notes, the Cowboys were limited to what they could get in return thanks to Parsons needing a contract extension, whereas Garrett was already under contract for a while longer.

But, at the end of the day, Andrew Berry and the Browns got a better return for their superstar edge rusher than Jerry Jones and the Cowboys got for their own such star edge.
