How a Blue Jays-Dodgers World Series Game 6 or 7 would make MLB history

2 hours ago 1

The 2025 MLB World Series between the Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Dodgers is off to a strong start, with the series tied at 1-1 as it shifts to Los Angeles.

Games 3, 4, and 5 will all take place in Los Angeles, and tied at 1-1, if either the Blue Jays or Dodgers sweep in Los Angeles, the World Series will be over before making it back to Toronto.

But, as long as each team wins at least one game in Los Angeles, then Game 6 will have to be played. And as Evan Drellich of The Athletic points out, if the World Series ends in six or seven games, then it'd mark the first time in MLB history the season began and ended outside of the United States.

The Blue Jays-Dodgers World Series would make MLB history if it lasts to Game 6 or 7

"If this World Series goes six or seven games," Drellich writes, "it would be the first time in Major League Baseball history that the season both started and ended outside of the U.S."

The season began with the Dodgers taking on the Chicago Cubs in Japan in the Tokyo Dome, and if the World Series lasts at least six games, then the MLB season will end in Toronto, Ontario, in the Rogers Center in Canada.

Making MLB history would happen as long as both the Dodgers and Blue Jays win at least one game in Los Angeles. With how the two teams split in Toronto, a split in Los Angeles isn't out of the question.

A Blue Jays win might be harder to come by, but if they can pull off at least one win, then forcing the series to Game 6 is likely.

Max Scherzer and Tyler Glasnow will begin the set in Los Angeles in Game 3, and Shohei Ohtani will face Shane Bieber for Game 4. For Game 5, Blake Snell and Trey Yesavage, the Game 1 starters, are projected to get the bump.

As long as some split happens in Los Angeles, whether it's 2-1 Blue Jays or 2-1 Dodgers, the series will move back to Toronto for Game 6 and, if necessary, Game 7.

If the series does last that long, then it'd mark the first time in Major League history that the first game of the MLB season and the final game of the season both took place outside of the United States.

The MLB season could begin in Japan and end in Canada. All that needs to happen is for the Dodgers and Blue Jays to win at least one game while the series is in Los Angeles, and this niche piece of MLB history will become official.
