The Houston Texans have made the very surprising decision to fire offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik, per Ian Rapoport. Slowik was once heralded as a potential head coach candidate, especially last offseason after he helped rookie C.J. Stroud and the Texans' offense soar to become one of the best in the NFL.
This season, though, wasn't nearly as successful as 2023. While the Texans won the AFC South for a second straight year and won a playoff game, Houston was 21st in EPA per play, behind the likes of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Jacksonville Jaguars. Stroud was also amongst the most sacked quarterbacks in the league, which has led DeMeco Ryans to also fire offensive line coach Chris Strausser.
Where Slowik will land is yet to be determined, but despite the up-and-down year, he will still be coveted around the league, especially for teams who want a more modern offense.
