Houston Rockets Amen Thompson is entering his third NBA season after being the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. He is only 22 years old and showed a lot of all-star potential last season.
Thompson was one of the reasons why the Rockets finished with the second-best record in the Western Conference. In 2025-26, Thompson is looking to take his game to another level. Rockets center Alperen Sengun was an all-star last season for the first time. Can Thompson be a first-time all-star in the Western Conference this season?
NBA.com Writer Believes Amen Thompson of the Houston Rockets Can Be a First Time All-Star This Season
Steve Aschburner of NBA.com wrote about 10 potential NBA players who could become all stars for the first time during the 2025-26 NBA season. He believes that Thompson could be an all-star this season. Aschburner said,
"The athletic ability of these twins is off the charts, so if either develops a more reliable offensive package, he could accompany an All-Star teammate – Sengun or Cunningham, respectively – as his team’s second choice. Amen already played on All-Star Sunday via the roundabout mini-tournament last year that included a Rising Stars unit. But we’re talking about the big game – one that twins Dick and Tom Van Arsdale reached together in 1970 and 1971."
He played in 69 games last season. Thompson averaged 14.1 PPG, 8.2 RPG, 3.8 APG, 1.3 BPG, and 1.4 SPG. He also shot 55.7% from the field. Thompson only had one game of 30 or more points during the 2024-25 season. There is a chance that he could have more this season. In order for him to get to the all-star game this season, he is going to have to average 21-22 PPG.
Amen does a lot of things well for the Rockets on both ends of the floor. He is going to have to take his game to another level if they want to make a deep run in the playoffs this upcoming season.
