The final session of the Panini Hoophall Classic in Springfield, Missouri, is under way, and it's guaranteed to shake up Tuesday's next edition of The Sporting News High School Boys Basketball Top 25.
No. 7 Dynamic Prep [Irving, TX] already pulled a minor upset of the No. 4 Prolific Prep [Fort Lauderdale, FL] Crew, 78-66, in the early action, and the nightcap could shake things up even further if undefeated No. 10 SPIRE Academy [Geneva, OH] takes down the No. 2 Brewster Academy [Wolfeboro, NH] Bobcats. That game is scheduled to tip off at 5 p.m. EST.
It could even be enough to lift SPIRE Academy into the No. 1 position when the rankings are released. SPIRE already has a head-to-head win over the current No. 1 AZ Compass Prep [Chandler, AZ] Dragons, a team that is also in the Bay State for the event at Springfield College. The Dragons beat the No. 3 Link Academy [Branson, MO] Lions Sunday night, 64-54, but whether that will be enough for the Dragons to hold onto the top spot might depend on the outcome of the SPIRE-Brewster matchup.
The first contest of the Monday session was also a surprise with the Newman National [Boston, MA] Cardinals upsetting the Southeastern Prep Academy National [Orlando, FL] Falcons, 67-60. Southeastern Prep has spent time in the national Top 25 this season, and the loss is guaranteed to keep them from re-entering the list for now. On the flip side, the win for Newman will raise the Cardinals' profile on the national scene.
Monday's contests are being televised on the ESPN networks, including ESPN2 and ESPNU. Complete results and the rest of the upcoming schedule are listed below.
All times are EST local.
