Historic NBA Championship fuels record-breaking sales of New York Knicks merch on Fanatics

The New York Knicks sparked more merch sales on Fanatics.com in the first 24 hours after their stunning Saturday win than any other championship team in any sport in years past, according to the popular site.

Fanatics logged over 8,000 orders of Knicks apparel and memorabilia per minute upon offering Championship-branded products right after the historic win.

The closest runner-up in terms of merch sales was the Philadelphia Eagles, who fueled 5,500 orders per minute when they won last year’s Super Bowl, according to Fanatics.

“The order volumes for the Knicks is something we have not seen for any other sport or team,” Sam Archibald, Fanatics’ chief merchandising officer, told The Post on Monday.

Knicks merch ranges from a Jalen Brunson jersey going for $124.99 to a $22 infant bodysuit boasting of the championship win. Unsurprisingly, no. 11 is the most popular Knicks jersey on the site.

There’s also a Fanatics-Post collaboration featuring the historic front and back pages of Sunday’s edition of the paper. Shipping for the in-demand item is set to start July 6, according to Fanatics.

The Knicks started breaking sales records when they clinched the Eastern Conference title on May 25, outpacing the previous record set by the Golden State Warriors in 2022 when they captured the Western Conference championship.

The Knicks drove more merchandise sales in the first two hours after their conference triumph than the Warriors did in the five days following their title, according to Fanatics.

“Based on that, we understood the level of fandom,” Archibald said.

As the NBA Finals got underway last week, Fanatics dispatched a “fan wagon” that traversed Big Apple hot spots including Bryant Park, Rockefeller Center and the West 4th Street basketball courts, drawing lines of up to 150 people at a time, a spokesman for Fanatics said.

The company is expecting this Thursday’s ticker-tape parade to “drive another large sales spike,” according to Archibald.

The most popular location for Knicks merch was, of course, the New York metropolitan area.

Outside of the Big Apple, Florida was the biggest market for blue-and-orange merch — over 300 items to choose from on Fanatics.com.

The 2016 Chicago Cubs hold the Fanatics record for sales in the weeks after a championship, but the Knicks are on track to overtake them, too, said Archibald.

That’s even though the Cubs went 108 years before winning a World Series, he noted.
